Rhule on QB (Darnold) & my translation.

So now, it's: Rhule didn't rip on  on his new QB to the press, so he must have approved his contract.   If someone asks if you plan to fire the new guy that you just hired, you don't say "of course".

Rhule is NOT going to say that Teddy was a bridge or transitional to the press because  we all know that Teddy saw this as his shot at the captains chair.  Rhule is not going to say "naaahh, he's just filling in."

So all of the other Hurney screw ups were on Hurney, but this one's on Rhule?

It was Hurney's decision.

smh

Matt Rhule on contracts: Matt Rhule talks defensive performances at practice, minicamp schedule (panthers.com) 7:25

He says he leaves the contract stuff to the GM because he wants the players to see him as a coach.

So Matt Rhule was coach in the NFL for like 5 minutes, had never negotiated an NFL contract before, and now stays out contracts, came in and said to the guy that hired him, I want you to run the contracts by me for approval...and I'm in la-la-land?

In the end, you can paint it any color you want, the decision was Hurny's, not Rhule's.

The Bridgwater contract was a typical McHurneyfication fckup.

I just don't understand how people don't see that.

When we first signed TB i really thought it was a coaching decision.  Felt like a we can win now move, coaches tend to have that kind of ego, also the fact Brady had worked with him.

Since though, I really think it was mostly Hurney, and the reason is how quickly Rhule sent Teddy packing.  Usually if a coach is for a major decision like that he might try to make it work to make him self look good.  This is almost more of a "told you it was a bad decision by Hurney" type of move."  You see it all the time with new GMs and coaches they are quick to throw the other guys under the bus so to speak.

I hear you guys, I just don't agree. Let me repeat: If Rhule did not want Teddy here, he wouldn't have been here.

Maybe Hurney was ultimately responsible, notwithstanding that there's probably a few reports out there of Tepper stating his vision for a management structure and hierarchy of the team and Rhule's place in it, I'll give you that. But nothing was going down without Rhule's approval, and Rhule was an undeniably strong believer in Teddy (so much so that it probably led to such an asinine contract). Go directly to 2:06 if you want to cut through all the bull. Rhule was wrong as two left shoes.

So what you're saying is Rhule should have said to the press:

"Hey, this wasn't MY guy.  Talk to Hurney"

or

"Hey, I think Teddy's perfect for the rebuild, but he's just filling in"

or

"I signed off Teddy as transitional QB, but Hurney f'ed up the contract"

What should Rhule have said?

There are really folks out there who believe a newly hired 60 million dollar head coach and the owner who hired him that keeps a huge set of brass testicles on his desk just let a former radio host and currently twice terminated general manager take the reigns without a say. This is entertaining.

And just because an HC doesn't directly or publicly deal with players and their agents on contracts, doesn't mean that they don't have considerable influence privately upon the GM and team owner.

Right back at ya.

Here's the truth.  You don't know.  I don't know.  But Tepper does.  People are just using this because they're still butthurt over Cam, or Fields, or the Oline, or Teddy, or last years draft or this years draft, or whatever.  They use Teddy as a data point so they can claim Rhule's in the hotseat or will be if we don't start have winning  seasons soon.  This season can not get here soon enough.

In the end, Hurney makes the contract.

He could've said a number of things. We've heard rhetoric, the cat and mouse game, and the spin of nothingness before. But, I believe that's beside the point. The point is is that he was fully on board, and his anecdotes and enthusiasm for Bridgewater were palpable.

Hey, you can believe that Rhule is some powerless puppet that has no say-so whatsoever, but I know that's not true. He's likely as powerful as any HC in the league at the moment. He had more power than Hurney, and he likely has more power than Fitterer for the moment. Potentially franchise-handicapping moves aren't going to be made without his express nod. That's just what I believe.

Rhule may have shouted to the heavens wanting Teddy. But it was Hurndog that paid him.

When he was just hired?  Nah.    After he was on the job a while  and then  Hurney got fired?  Yes!    With the disagreements we know about, and the old school Hurney crap....Tepper knew Marty and Rhule disagreed on how to rebuild a team.

Thank you Matt Rhule for helping get rid of Hurney.

and he likely has more power than Fitterer for the moment.

Yeah, Fit has been here just a few months and it looked like both him and Tepper looked to Rhule in Panthers confidential, mostly in terms of who to get.  But if you look at the Panthers confidential where they are discussing getting Darnold, Rhule isn't even in the room.  Now that was probably a reenactment, but they included Rhule with the whiteboard early.  I'm not saying Rhule didn't push for or sign off for Darnold, I'm saying Fit looked bought in.   Also hat doesn't mean Rhule's in on the dollars.  That is apparent in the Panthers Confidential supplement where they are negotiating dollars and Rhule is nowhere to be found.

Ok well I'm done here trying to convince you that Marty wasn't Rhule's puppet on the Teddy contract, even though Marty had signed dozens of oversized contracts like that before.

The problem with fans is that too many of them think football teams are engaging in 007 level espionage and every statement is actually some double blind bluff that needs to be analyzed to get the true meaning.

As often as not, it's nowhere near that complicated.

Once a draft pick is made or a transaction is completed, there's generally little to no reason to lie about it or keep secrets. But fans see someone with a different take than them and automatically think there has to be some weird spin on it.

Well maybe, or maybe you were just...you know, wrong.

And so what? Hell, I have a lot more respect for someone just saying "guess I was wrong" than someone trying to create an algebraic equation to prove they were really technically right. Ditto the whole "Oh yeah, that dumb sh-t I said before? I was just joking" excuse.

Tell me exactly what I said was wrong

Why, because he began with defense?

You have to build a winner situationally, point, blank and period!

You can't be so dogmatic about philosophies and theories that you miss the forest for the trees! That's how Gettleman did things. Hurney may have tried to build situationally, but he was god-awful at it on the personnel side (outside of the first round).

Believe you over reacted.

Our defense needed to be rebuilt.

All of what you said, Doesn't matter.

Our defense NEEEDED to be rebuilt,  and it happens the defense is the easiest to quickly rebuild through the draft.

Just facts.

We already had an elite running back. An elite receiver. They brought in another elite receiver to pair with Moore.  They did what they could to turn start the process of turning the team around. They didn't ignore any positions.

Anyways, thanks for over reaction.

Well, I think you just proved what I said.

As for overreaction, it seems like you  were overreacting by giving me 💩 the other day, when I made a largely benign comment about Darnold, bit that didn't stop you.
