Hornets not pursuing any more centers

Charlotte added two centers on draft night, and also drafted JT Thor, who could be classified as a four or a five. With the moves, they now have significantly less cap space to work with this summer, and also don’t have a huge need for a center anymore. Plumlee can act as their starter and safety net as they try to develop Jones, Thor, Vernon Carey Jr, and Nick Richards.

According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Hornets are not expected to go after centers in free agency anymore.

So we have Mason Plumlee and the Richards, Carey, Jones, and Thor? That makes nervous. I'm not in love with the idea of Plumlee starting for us and the others are unproven youngsters. I guess we can expect a lot of small ball. It'll be interesting to see how Borrego sets the Center depth chart. I would put money on us trading some of our young talent for a stud center mid-season.

I'd like them to get a scoring low post, half court center instead of all these gazelles but the style of play with LaMelo and the scoring threats from 1-4 may cover up the need for a dominant 5, but when the playoffs come the half court game IS the game.

Carey looked good last season so hope is alive. Plumlee?! Not sure. I agree I'd feel better they could retain Biz at least.

I love Terry.. but now the addition of Bouknight as the heir apparent to the SG position makes Terry's days numbered..

I hope we don't just let Terry walk next year and we might have to get something for him at the trade deadline.. package Rozier and Plumlee for another quality bench Big with a 1st round pick from someone..?

But some guys on here say that Jones won’t be seeing the court very much, possibly none at all this season.

That's why I said in two or three years. I'd expect him to spend most of the first half of this season in the G-League. Depending on where we are in the playoff race, maybe some time with the Hornets later in the season.

That's why Vernon's here but also why it's difficult to fit him into a modern NBA lineup. Also why Dwight Howard didn't pan out in Charlotte despite a great stat sheet. Old school centers kill the ball movement and the game's too fast and stretched for that now.

The coaches keep saying that Carey and Richards were hindered by the lack of an offseason so hopefully with a real one they'll be good.

We got killed in the playoffs when we couldn't run and gun. To grow up and win playoff basketball we'll need to get the ball into the post even if that guy passes it back.

They were woefully schooled and embarrassed when they couldn't run and hit shots, that's now the blueprint. Dwight to the Lakers again shows us how important half court basketball is.

Your team can make it to the playoffs running but we must be able to play in the paint and have a way to score in the paint or we won't get far.

Carey looked very promising. I'll be watching him closely because to make it any further than we did last season we'll need Vernon to step up big time.

    • Wow I can’t believe the panthers tried to trade up, failed, but still got the guy they wanted to trade up for. I wonder if anyone else has ever said that next you’ll tell me they had Hunter and Brazzell graded as first rounders.
    • I don’t think people are saying that picking up the option is a call for the pitchforks. We would have had to do things differently a couple of years back to make declining the option a valid move. We didn’t and here we are. People largely accept that. The pattern it adheres to, reinforces the nausea we feel when the idea of an extension, and at top of the market no less, comes up.  One that he hasn’t shown he deserves.   Same as he did not deserve to be drafted 1.1. Look at Pavia and what really is the difference? Bryce is a nice guy and Pavia is an asshole lol. They are both no margin for error non day one talents. One went undrafted.  Probably should have been drafted day three anyway. The other was way over drafted.
    • We hate losing. I don't know Bryce to hate him. His play as a QB, I absolutely hate. It's just not good enough. If there were a lottery held to select the order and all 32 starting QBs could be drafted as the starting QB for whatever team selected them, how long do you think it would be before Bryce's name was called? Top 10, top 20, bottom 8? Think about it.  For me, having never seen back to back games with franchise QB level performance in 3 years tells me what I need to know. We still need to be looking for our solution at QB.
