Only 1 man outside Jerry "Sweet Tea and Blue Jeans" Richardson could ever claim the mantle of Ghost of Panthers' Misfortune.  That man (and I use the term loosely) is Marty "The Shart" Hurney.

First, sweet tea and blue jeans is the greatest country music song title EVER! Second, I was going to say him, but, dammit, he will always get a pass from me for getting us a team. I just wish he had sold about 15 years sooner.

It has hit him.  Doesn't have the deep ball that he did.  And back in the old days, he made some pretty average offensive groups look great.  Don't get me wrong, he is still good, and is cool as a cucumber in crunch time, but needs more talent around him to win now.

Unfortunately, he has it. TB is stacked.

It was tough to hear the allegations, I too felt a certain gratitude for getting us a team.  That doesn't excuse the Hurney experience, hiring only defensive minded coaches, nepotism and general ass-hattery behind the scenes.

That 50 yard scramble against the Bronco's D is sick.  It's really been 2.5 years counting injuries.  He's no Cam on the run, but who is.

This deserves it own thread.

The scrambling ability is a big plus. But if he's running at all like that for the Panthers with a 64 million dollar rb in the backfield that probably means our season is toast.

Hey he's yet to play more than 13 games in a season. You want him to buck that trend right? Gotta keep him healthy and let the playmakers do what they do.

It's a scramble. It is not the end of the world if a QB does it every so often. Every QB but Brady scramble.

Also, most QBs get hurt in the pocket, not while running. So it is kind of a good safe play.

Le'ts keep those bullets in the gun. Until there IS something to see, there is nothing to see. YET. If Sam can play all 17 games? I think we have a chance to be a really good team.

Short story long: Sam's got dis.

    • Dave in a presser gassed up Anthony Tyus III and dying to see him on the field.  I mean 3 is all that needed right, and Dan loves etienne. He's one year filling in his body. If brooks is back, toss in chubba, thats 3.
    • After seeing hits in the last two UDFA pools, I do not in this group sorta of a let down after I gassed myself up.  Not like I know of their games, but just expected more. The duke DT only has to beat out hunte (2025 UDFA) or Ray (DL coach's kid) or even Cam Jackson mid 2025 5th.  I thought they would bring in more edges, IOL, TEs, etc...
    • My 2 favorite picks, since you didn't ask? 3. Brazzell II.  A 1000 yard WR with 4.37 speed and checks all the boxes for a Z Wide Receiver.  IN THE THIRD ROUND!!! 5.  Sam Hecht.  I think he will take over as the starter at some point this season and never look back.  IN THE FIFTH ROUND. Runner Up:  2. Hunter:  We were targeting a DT early in this draft because we did very little to replace Robinson in free agency.  Hunter was our guy and he will start. In addition to that, you got a starting tackle that should man one side of the new OL we will build for Bryce's second contract. A starting WR, offensive lineman, defensive lineman and possible Offensive tackle (at some point during this year from this draft will start.  UNREAL. In addition, I don't doubt that Wheatley (5th round) takes the FS job by next year and Lee III is Jackson's replacement in 2027.   Finally, even Kuwatch should be a special teams demon and LB depth.   Last year's draft was so good it was ugly.  This one will turn out to be uglier.  No offense Basbear--this ain't about you.
