QB Controversy

Carolina All Day... Clearly there's something in the air against PJ, who's a member of the Carolina Panthers...I mean so many threads concerned with the backup QB, why, because it shows the lack of faith in Sam Darnold...once again passing on Fields, and now releasing Will, let's me know how much faith it is they have in PJ vs. how much they in Sam Darnold...like @CRA has stated they're not bringing in any QB, and it's because they don't want any real competition for Sam Darnold.

Darnold is a bargain chip...he was meant for insurance always...a decent backup..or trade bait should a certain QB legal problems disappear...had it been Fields,Darnold,PJ...there would be no Horn...and PJ possesses the same skill set as Fields so the understanding if Darnold sucks, homerun with PJ... Phillip went undrafted...off and on the colts...PJ is a baller from the XFL...who knows what it takes to fight to get where you are...

So as a Panthers fan 🙏 for 6

PJ and Fields aren’t really comparable. I believe PJs pro day 40 is closer to Darnold than it is to Fields. Fields faced more pressure than any other QB this preseason on his drop backs (49% of his drop backs were under pressure) and he didn’t shrink to a miserable 41% completions.

It’s not against PJ only. The year before it was against Grier. When you play like trash you should be cut or the position should be upgraded. If Sam goes down, our season is over.

Pray for 14 to stay healthy and develop. We need to upgrade at backup QB. Grier would be minimally better than PJ anyway. Neither one of them are winning us games. They can only hope to not be the cause we lose,  it they won’t ever be why we win.

Panther fans don’t root and hope for the starter to go down just so the backup can get reps and prove he’s not starting material.

Except during the Clausen season.  You might even have to include the Weinke season as well.

Your premise is theoretically correct but there are always outliers.

Gotta believe the chances of PJ getting picked up off waivers would have been less than Will's.

If Rhule hoped to keep both backup QBs, his bias for his former college players may have betrayed him this time.

If true he will learn soon enough.

Will got a 2% chance.  PJ got a 1% chance.  Whatever it actually is, I almost think any conversation that involves  PJ/Grier is splitting hairs.

What we needed to of done is not go all in on Sam Darnold.   Darnold is the underlying reason everyone is so passionate about this pointless debate.    If we were going this route, we should of brought in two guys IMO.  So you bring in Darnold and Mitch T.  Or Darnold and Menshew.   Let them compete.  Increase your odds.

Hence....THE QB CONTROVERSY of 2021....we are now left with no choice but PJ

...you kno, in case, Sam Darnold doesn't pan out

Yeah, seeing how little Darnold and Menshew cost to pickup by their respective teams, there is a good argument to be made for creating a more competitive situation in Carolina.

Though isn't that what Denver has been attempting to do for years now?

    • I think you know. Apparently winning is secondary to Bryce’s development. Same as it has been.     In a way it may be good because we didn’t need to make the playoffs and extend this fuging charade about Bryce being the guy. Better in the long run if he gets enough rope to hang himself with.
    • Dave Canales is not the problem. He just isn't
    • I know DC is overthinking this and he really needs to be OC or HC, but how do you call plays with a QB that in all reality, shouldn't be starting. Bryce is wildly inconsistent. He should lean on Rico and the run game, but if he does and wins, it presents a false narrative that Bryce is better than he is and he's potentially stuck with him for another season. If he doesn't, he looks incompetent as a play caller, but it exposes the ugly side of his QB situation that he really does need a QB that can execute at minimum a basic NFL offense with some decent consistency.  I feel a little sorry for the guy because he was anchored with Young this season and even more weight with Dalton getting a 2 year deal. He has very little to work with at the most important position on his team and it's not his doing. The trade deadline was approaching and it was plainly obvious we needed to do something but we didn't for whatever reason.  I don't think he's a complete bonehead and don't know what he's supposed to do. Win games and potentially keep Bryce or lose them by putting the weight on Bryce's shoulders. Either he succeeds or fails.  As a coach I know you're supposed to play to win the game, but do you win now at the ultimate long term detriment to your team and locker room?
