When Fitt said we will be "in on every deal," he meant it. Panthers attempted to sign Jaylon Smith

Just so I’m clear - the huddle loves Shaq now?

Not for 20m. That’s elite and consistent elite money (Luke, Wagner).

Yea not his fault and all.

But still need to be considered since they’ll have to do something about it unless you want to put basically all of the money that should be for the entire LB positions in one player who can’t do it on his own (like elites can) and continue to surround him with garbage, in an already thin position.

Shaq better be cut after this season. Dude is making elite money and finally just now started to pay like an average LB. Jermaine Carter is just another guy, one who isn’t making a lot of mistakes but also not making a lot of plays. I bet we go after Leighton Vander Esch in the offseason. If not, I want Nakone Dean or Brandon Smith.

And Shaq definitely isn’t Luke or Davis.

Actually, he's quite good and was performing at their level this season. He would have been last season, too,  but was having to cover for Whitehead's inability and with an incredibly young and understaffed defense.

Shaq is one of the best LBs in the league right now.

I told you guys LB depth would be a problem.  You can't have only 3 starters and 1 legit backup (even if he can play all 3 positions) and say you are fine at LB.  I knew all it would take is one injury and things could get ugly.  We are one more injury away from practice squad guys being starters.  I don't care what scheme we run (but we are in nickle mostly!!!!), 4 legit LBs is not enough, period.

I told everyone we should've drafted Micah Parsons and traded for Smith when the opportunity was available before the season started. Why did I say this? Because defenses are best built inside out. Great defensive lines and linebacker groups can make secondaries look all-world. Great secondary groups can't compensate for a soft middle and front line of a defense.

Knowing what we know now, we could've traded back for Parsons, trade that extra pick for Smith (assuming they still wanted to get rid of him), and then got Gilmore because he'd been on the block in New England I'm sure.

I'm short, we could've ended up with Micah Parsons, Jaylon Smith and Stephon Gilmore. I was told that Jaycee Horn is a game changer and Micah Parsons would be a bust because he takes plays off.

How is that looking now? I don't follow the Panthers like I used to because I have young kids and don't have the cash for Game Pass so I'm usually relegated to listening on Sirius XM on my phone and watching evening games but drafting Horn instead of shoring up the middle of the defense.

That said, the Panthers lost to the Eagles because of the blocked punt. Sam didn't help but this is a three phase game. The special teams gave the Eagles life at the end of the game.

    • I think the racist stuff is barking up the wrong tree with Tepper. He is all woke and stuff. Not that liberal white people can’t be racists they are in their way pretty racist.  Or can be,  I for sure agree about the yes man aspect and particularly apply that to Wilks.  I didn’t understand the Rhule hiring at all. Did not want. But down the line with Wilks, zi personally wanted him, and personally did not see the racism being a factor in the Reich hiring as much as the fixation with offensive minded play callers and copying that trendy model.  I am having a hard time calling to mind any Black coaches who were out there with the big offensive rep. At one time Byron Leftwich was a hot name who I liked. Don’t remember what happened there but he faded. Bienemy but I never believed in him much personally. I think Tepper basically excluded defensive guys and went for the top rated play caller OC types. And couldn’t get Ben Johnson and ended up settling with Reich.  Who ended up NOT being a yes man at all.
    • Someone like Steve Smith wouldn't have last half a season under Tepper.
    • Idk what we look like against the Rams.  I do know that any idea of making the playoffs is over.  What Canales has proven is when we need it, we don’t get it.  When we don’t need it or it’s unexpected, we usually get it.  We’ve lost too many games already that should’ve been wins for us to make up ground on the back end.
