The effects of Thursday Night games - would it benefit the Panthers to just forfeit?

Not only is that not an option...

...the players don't want it as they like getting paid.

I like the idea of backups playing a Thursday night game. As the Panthers have seen the past few seasons, one Thursday night debacle can RUIN AN ENTIRE SEASON.

This is where the League Office would step in and take a very hard line...

...those are featured games and the idea is a non-starter for all involved parties.

The owners & Goodell are not going to the NFL slide down the same sh*t covered slope the NBA has gone down...

Of course they like getting paid. But they can get paid just as easily on a Sunday as a Thursday. Open the season on Thursday, fine. Thanksgiving, teams off a bye week.

These guys are getting hurt on short weeks. Just using Panthers, Cam gets hurt and hasn't been the same. His next mega contract doesn't happen because he's not the same guy. CMC pulls a hammy and now that's 2 years in a row with significant injury, does he get another big contract? Burris goes down, gotta consider that on his contract. 1 game vs career implications is a big deal especially when there's no reason the game can't be played on Sunday.

As more and more of these injuries keep piling up, it's going to get looked at. Recovery is part of health and health is supposed to be one of the big concerns of the NFL now with concussions, early death, CTE etc. The NFLPA should be looking at this from a player safety point. If they want Thursday night games fine, just have the teams coming off a bye. Sometimes you have to protect the players, even from themselves. Cam is a perfect example with that Lisfranc.

All the prevailing terms & conditions were collectively bargained between the players and the owners.

If the players never want to play another Thursday game they should make that a non-negotiable point next time they are at the bargaining table...

...but for now the die is cast.

I agree with you unless it can be proved that these games are putting the players at an excess risk that they wouldn't normally face. Wouldn't be too statistically difficult I would think.

For now the die is cast, but I would definitely be voicing my concerns to the NFLPA if they feel the same as CMC.

Doesn't matter.

Unlikely.

Did CMC go in the record and play the Thursday Card as the reason for his lack of availability? 🤦‍♂️

    • The league would protect him.  The amount of poo Jerry Jones has had exposed and got away with?  The amount of poo Stephen Ross has got away with?  How long Dan Snyder got away with essentially fuging sex trafficking employees and poo???????  Taking down JR was a hit job.  You think the other 31 owners, especially the older ones aren’t blathering, blatant, ignorant ass, bigoted rich racists who have committed far worse things than Blue Jean Fridays?  The ones I named above have DEFINITELY did worse than what JR was accused of.  And do you think guys like Steve Smith would’ve been viewing him as a father figure if they felt that’s who he was?  JR pissed the league off with that last lockout situation and they made him pay.  They lined a new guy up to join their billionaire boys club in Tepper, and they prolly slid a pretty penny to Jonathan Jones to write the “expose,” to get JR out of here.  Again, all the owners I’ve listed above have been verified on record for doing worse poo, yet they’re still running their organizations, unquestioned.  They hand-picked Tepper long before JR was forced out, so he isn’t going anywhere.  Sadly.  fug the NFL.  (Also, to be clear, it’s always fug racism, bigotry, and sexual exploitation - not ever excusing it.  Just making the point that the NFL isn’t operating under this clear standard of justice applied to each and every case)
    • I was still in the throes of a contentious divorce and my job at the time had me work on Sundays.  At the beginning of the season I tried to still work around Sundays so I could see our games.  I think after Bryce came back from the benching, I said fug it.  First time in my life I intentionally didn’t watch our games, even through the Atlanta finale.  In the past, even if we didn’t live up to expectations, I would watch to still support and at least analyze player development, strengths and weaknesses, coaching, etc., but Bryce makes all of that a moot point, so I stopped watching. Again, this is asinine,  it if he is retained (still can’t believe this is even a possibility of a conversation due to how shitty our organization has become under Tepper), I will NOT watch next season until he is gone.
    • Live look at Bryce playing ping pong.
