I remember us not being able to pay 2 DT'S that much money.. Its just not smart.  Star wasn't fan of the south and he wasn't giving us a discount... Ppl freaked out paying 2 RBs.. They couldn't afford to do that at DT..

Yet they had no problem paying Dontari Poe 9M/ year in the same off-season. Was that 1M the difference in over paying a position?

Star wanted more money over more years.. Star wanted Kk's contract  not Poe's.. You do know there is a difference right??

You do understand their was a different negotiation strategy with us then he had with the Bills..

I'm not a fan of Gentleman but it would have been stupid to put that much money into 1 position group..

What does that have to do with the team paying the position too much? They chose Poe over Star. Star went to BUF for 1M more. That amount doesn’t put any team as over paying any position. You said they wouldn’t. But they actually did and chose the wrong guy. But we can discuss any details about either of their deals. Gladly.

Okay there is this thing called a positional value chart.. Dt's don't rank high on it.. So paying 2 like KK would have handicapped the team from fixing anything else on the team..

Again since you're not getting this .. Star negotiation with us was different then his with Buffalo's.. He didn't want the contract he got from Buffalo from us.. He wanted KK'S contract or better.. Poe got a short deal. Poe didn't get KK'S deal... Star wanted more years and more Money from us.. Do you understand?? There is no hindsight 20/20 here unless you're talking we should have kept Star over KK.. Because we couldn't keep them both..

It is way too early to write Derrick Brown off.  It takes time for DTs to develop unless they are among the very elite.  Cameron Heyward is an All-Pro and he didn't even start his first two years.

Brown will be fine.  He showed way too much promise last year, he's just in a slump right now.  But the guy is 23 years old w/ incredible physical talent and a very hard worker.  Let's just pump the brakes.

Brown hasn’t been great (average at best), but outside of Wirfs, Becton (who was a risky pick), Terrell, Lamb, and Jefferson… who do you replace him with? You certainly don’t replace Brown with Kinlaw who has been down right atrocious.

In hindsight, we should have drafted Wirfs but we had just signed Okung and had Moton on the other side.

It’s also tough to say whether or not Brown has been hampered by DaQuan Jones. Jones has been the worst out of the two and maybe that’s affecting Brown’s play.

With the wealth of corners that we have, maybe giving Donte Jackson’s money to someone like Maliek Collins would help sure up the run game.

Since we have reached the point in the spin cycle where you directly contradict your original spin, let’s see if you can get this.

You stated a reason for not signing Star being that they didn’t want to spend too much on one position. Yet this same team paid almost as much to another DT shortly thereafter. So please explain how this was different than assigning a known quantity, to 1M more a year. I don’t care what you think they wanted from any team. And even Star’s agent knew he wasn’t getting KK money. From anyone. Star may have wanted to move on. Who cares. It’s irrelevant. There was no way they didn’t sign him because of too much Monday at DT, when they spent it anyhow right after. Then spent 7M more on McCoy the next off season. How does one explain all this?

Dude seriously..

Your whole argument is based on the contract he got from Buffalo that he wasn't asking for here...

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/429678002

3years 27mill. Poe's contract. With voidable years..

https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2704082-kawann-short-panthers-agree-to-5-year-contract-reportedly-worth-80m.amp.html

Kawan short had a 5 year 80mil contract..

Star wanted Shorts contract not Poe's from us do you not see the difference..

Why does it matter, in any way, what Star wanted from the Panthers, or any team. It’s about what he got and was actually worth. Stars 5/50M he got was barely more than that. Why is spending 1M/year more just TOO MUCH(according to you) for a position. This is your theory and nothing the team did has shown there was ever a thought like that. Or they wouldn’t have run out to sign Poe. Then sign McCoy when both Poe and KK were here.

Just for kicks, show us where anyone with credibility confirmed that Star wanted 16M/yr?

I had a sense that it was a bad pick when we drafted him.  I didn't like his frame, he's big, but he didn't look powerful enough relative to what's being asked of him.

What??? He didn’t look powerful enough in college?

what film are yo watching?

    • Yep. It was an obvious red flag that a lot of people ignored. The results/scores in preseason don’t matter, but individual performance very much does and individually, we looked like the least talented team in the league and it carried over.
    • Sorry, but in 2015, we didn’t look like poo to the extent of 2023. People who said it’s just preseason were completely wrong. Simple as that. 2015 was a veteran lead team. It was Cam’s 5th year and Luke’s 4th. Even our OL was 80% the same (added Oher) as the great run to finish 2014 with a playoff win. That year can be labeled as preseason doesn’t matter because I’m sure we rested vets and well, Ron/Mike weren’t putting in special plays, etc. I absolutely don’t recall a bunch of us saying that Turner was getting killed on one on ones or that Luke was completely out of position or that Norman was hurt again but probably fine. The only thing that was right about the 2023 preseason is that the minority of us who saw it, were correct that we A) should have been making Young and others play 100% of the reps as there was nothing to hide and B) the preseason means nothing was a bunch of BS trying to stay optimistic when it was obvious that we had way less good talent than the rest of the NFL.
    • You are telling me Paul Maurice is a better coach than Rod??? Yes!!!  It’s because he plays a better system and has a better goalie.   Our system sucks in playoffs and he refuses to roll with Koochie. Dallas cowboys level poo
