Upcoming Dilemna

We are one loss from tying our longest non-winning seasons. (09-12) and solidifying our spot at another top 10 pick.  Currently 8th.

The question is, what should be our primary target in the 2022 draft.  QB or LT?  I don't follow college football players as much as I do the teams, but it appears there are some really good offensive linemen available as well as some interesting QBs.

The problem is if we draft a QB than we are in the same boat as we were this year.  A really crappy line but, if we draft a LT than we don't have a QB to execute the offense.  The Darnold trade really kills the opportunity to get both in the first 2 rounds.

I would probably take the top LT (ONLY LT) and run with Cam one more season hopefully finding a QB in 2023 or a later round QB that can be groomed.

I mostly agree but other and trading for ANOTHER QB you are either going to have to ride with Cam or draft a 3rd rounder because our 2nd is gone.

If you are going to draft a LT than get the best, use free agency to get top tier talent on the O-line and let Cam run the offense.   Focus on 2023 for a QB.  We'll have a full complement of draft picks to wheel and deal with.

LT, DE, QB. Depends on where the value falls. Top priority is QB, then LT, then DE with the 1st pick.

Without a great QB you can mark off winning the SB. Until we solve the QB problem we're basically spinning our wheels as far as winning championships is concerned. Had we tanked we would already have a great, but Rhule was convinced he needed to teach the Panthers players how to win in December. Yeah that happened.

The problem of our mediocre o-line has been making this fan base SICK. No one is buying tickets and this team is ass. The main culprit is the poop o-line and bad play calling. Brady is poop canned, and the worst o-linemen should be next.

A big DE who can hold up in the run and rush the passer at a high level, coupled with the return of Horn, would give us a dominant defense when rested.

There's always the Hurney factor to consider.

We know Rhule and Fitt are still learning on the job. Our only hope is that they have come to the conclusion that they need a great QB, not a p.o.s to craft into something.

I like the idea of a LT.  Honestly, Sam or PJ will do well with protection.  Cam will probably retire.  There's also QB's that can be picked up in free agency.

    • 100%. Nick Scott was awful last year. Like, even for a franchise that hasn't historically invested in that position, it stood out for how awful it was. If he sees meaningful snaps at S again we're cooked.  Maybe he has value for ST, but I certainly hope we can upgrade. Jordan Fuller, who was by all accounts an Evero guy, was almost as bad. Xavier Woods was bad, but not complete garbage. Still did not want him back. Those 3 guys seriously may have been the worst S group in the NFL. And they all were brought in, especially Fuller, as good fits for this system. Everyone knocks the defensive line, and they deserve a lot of blame, too, but so, so many times our safeties inability to tackle let 4-5 yard runs turn into 10+. And it happened over and over and over again if you watch the film. Honestly, Demani Richardson was the only S by the end of the year I remember making positive plays. I have no issue with Richardson being in the mix and/or competing to be a starter, but we still need another S desperately IMHO who has actually played meaningful snaps in the NFL. The only caveat/excuse for our secondary was the fact our pass rush was nonexistent for large stretches last year. Maybe that helps with coverage, but I dont see how that makes any of these guys better at tackling.  I know it somewhat feels like piling on at this point, but I feel 100% confident in saying this was the worst tackling team in franchise history. The 70ish yard pass play we gave up to Jamarr Chase where he ran through and past everyone in the secondary has to be up there in terms of most embarrassing plays I've ever seen. I can't imagine how embarrassed Kuechly must have been watching from the booth... I think bringing back Evero was a mistake, but for a team that has had nothing but change over the past 5 years, I'm willing to see this through. I definitely think we added significantly to the floor of this defense with the additions we made. I dont think Evero has any further excuses if he cant field a unit that can at least somewhat hold their own. Fixing the safety play is going to be a big part of that.
    • While I would like to see Nikishkin play, I definitely wouldn't want it to be for Chatty who is a lockdown defender like Slavin
    • 2 teams with sub 2% odds winning it within a span of less than 20 years. Quite unbelievable.
