Sorry-not about how much Rhule needs to be fired, but here is a thread that reveals the character of young players who bring it during times of adversity.  Some of our youth decided to step it up Sunday and they played well.

Hartsfield played lights out Sunday and seems to be settling into a role in the secondary playing the nickel position and at times, a third safety.  He was targeted 5 times and surrendered 15 yards for a QB rating against rating of 64.6.

Christensen is an inexperienced rookie who showed it at times Sunday, but all in all, he played his second respectable game at LT.  Rookie LTs all tend to struggle, so there could be something in him.  I hope Rhule plays him over the next two weeks.

CJ Henderson, a player many here call a "bust" had a 49.6 QB rating when targeted, the lowest on the team and against the GOAT.  We have reason to be optimistic about the secondary next season with Horn returning in 2022.  I should note that Gilmore covered Brown and the other WRs were bench players, but CJ did well nonetheless and was (by far) the team's best CB Sunday (statistically).

Shi Smith had 86 receiving yards.  His QBs completed about half of their passes and averaged about 5 yards per target.

Tecklenburg surrendered no sacks and only 2 pressures on 53 pass blocking snaps.  The problem with the Panthers was once again the Guards, surrendering 3 sacks and 9 pressures on 53 snaps--that is a pressure from a guard's block every six snaps, and a sack every 19 snaps.

Luvu had a solid game, combining with Shaq to have 4 tackles for loss or no gain.  He has outplayed Carter when given the opportunity.

I will reserve judgement on BC until he plays the next 2 games but it was not pretty at times.  2nd half in particular.

But fug Henderson that dude is garbage.  He seems to get burn on long pass plays every game at this point.  Not looking like a good trade as of today

Christensen gave up some pressures--no sacks--according to PFF.  You need to understand that he has not been getting reps at LT much in practice and his experience has been at G as much at T.  I saw some good feet, questionable balance, and a little hesitation common in players who are not yet adjusted.  Give him time. There are so many LTs in the NFL you'd love to have who started off as liabilities--and they were getting first team reps.

Same for Henderson--this is a new defense and he has shown moments where he is solid.  They did not run this defense in Jax, and it takes time to learn.

Both of the guys you target here do not have the same reps in practice and /or have had less time to learn the system at that respective position.  What you might be seeing is a lack of familiarity, not a lack of skill.  We need to see more from both.

The Panthers definitely have some good young talent on the team.  That's not in question.

The problems with this team are due to the lack of playing time for the rookies and the poor game schemes.  Those have combined to severely hinder player development.  And that's 100% on the coaching staff.

Gilmore got toasted by AB making it easier and easier to let him walk cause that was pathetic

According to PFF:

Secondary

Stephon Gilmore lined up against Brown for most of the game and conceded 75 yards on five receptions, three of which resulted in a gain of 15-plus yards. If it stands, his 51.0 coverage grade would be his lowest outing of the season.

I saw veterans who seem to have quit--even maybe Cam Newton.  Moore, Anderson, etc. just don't have emotion.  Glad to see some young one's did not.  And this thread was not to be negative--we all know the coaching staff sucks--but to play hard despite the leadership flaws is impressive.

But you are right--I want to see more Shi Smith, more targets to Marshall, more Christensen and Hoskins and Nixon.

Last 2 games should be used to extensively evaluate the young guys. See what you have in terms of younger and inexperienced. Games won't be as important in terms of score as much as experience gained by the youth movement we should be trying to infuse.

Henderson’s tackling has been as bad as advertised, but he’s a good athlete in coverage. If he improves his tackling at all then we’re going to win that trade and have a good young secondary.

There’s a certain other cornerback on this roster that came into this league afraid to tackle but was a star athlete. He’s about to get paid $$$ this summer (spoiler alert: most likely not by the panthers).

hint: his name rhymes with onte wackson

Maybe something we don't want to hear but we have a very young team. We don't have a team of pro bowlers. But what concerns all the turnovers and penalties and the o line. It's a damn with too many holes right now. We need a great off-season. We need a real plan to play better football. Do I think we would be this low with Ron .... No. Getting beat the way we are is really depressing.

    • The panthers are such a trash organization at this point that all the huddle can do is argue about which panthers team is historically the worst…good times.
    • Well, hope they're not worried about a torn Labrum or Rotator Cuff, as someone who went through that myself, I know those don't have anything show up on X-Rays but from the MRI, so this is kinda a nothing update, hope it's not a tear or his season is already over if they decide to do surgery now. Which is basically what would be needed to get him to 100% for the start of next season's training camp if it's a labrum.  If he plays the season with it and then does surgery, he's not going to be ready for camp and probably not the start of the season either.
    • I always try to not pay much attention to a team’s preseason win/loss record. The 1982 Washington and 2021 LA Rams both lost every game in the preseason and went on to win the Super Bowl, whereas the 2008 Detroit Lions and 2017 Cleveland Browns both won every game in reason and went on to lose every regular season game. There’s many examples of teams that lose in preseason that go on to have good seasons, but equally there are teams that lose in preseason and that continues in the regular season. Which will we be?  I think our floor is a handful of wins, while our ceiling will probably be around the 9-10 win mark. The latter will require significant improvement from the whole team and coaching staff, and will also need Bryce to play like the QB we drafted him to be. I want to be optimistic and predict a winning season, but it’s really difficult as a Panthers fan!
