seeing how I only looked at a few teams I'm guessing its more that you think, since you said show me "one"

Sure I was wrong, its not optimal, nor does it happen often but sure it can happen.  I still dont want to build a team by signing guys out of free agency to build the oline

You can do both.. Actually doing both might be the best option any way .. We don't just need  1 Oline position.. Attack the problem in the draft and FA.

I'm actually a fan of drafting O-line, just this thought around here that we have spend 4 draft picks over the next few years to get a good O-line is ludicrous.

Also you don't need an elite o-line to be successful in this league, and hardly any teams in the league has  above average starters.

Lets say we draft a LT in the 1st and move BC to guard and both above average.  Moton stays at RT and maybe Elflein stays at center.  Cheap vet for RG.

Maybe you end up with:

Above average

Above Average

Below Average

Average

Good

Honestly that is probably an above average or even top-10 line in the league, relatively speaking.

I don't know if Pickett will be a good quarterback.  The fact that he only had one good year is irrelevant imo.  Some people just take longer to get better than others.

The draft profiles and the assessments don't matter to me that much.  They are wrong more often than they are right.  All you have to do is look at the current group of elite qb's in the NFL, to see how wrong those assessments can be.  Best qb's in the NFC are a sixth round pick (Brady),  a fourth round pick (Prescott), a third round pick (Wilson), and a late first round pick (AR). And one top pick (Kyler Murray).    I won't be disappointed if we take Pickett regardless of what others say.

But I am concerned that the current staff can't really prepare him for the NFL.  He may be good, or he may not.  But if he does have the raw materials to be a good NFL qb, I hope we bring in a very good QB coach to teach him the ins and outs of the job.  Or better yet, maybe we take him, sit him for a year until Rhule gets canned.

Kenny Pickett is a 1 year wonder  1 year younger the Sam Darnold.. It took him 5 years to have that 1 good year.. In most years with good QB prospects he would be a 2nd or 3rd round pick..

This would be a horrible pick for us for many reasons.. Beyond the major red flags of hes older his arm isn't elite, he is a okay athlete and it took him 5 years to be a draft worthy prospect..

1. The coaching staff that might be doing the pick..

2. Picking  him eliminates adding day 1 starting talent for the Oline..

3. Since he is not a great prospect.. Like a Lawrence, Wison , Lance or Fields.. Yours forcing a QB on your next coaching hire he might not want..

My guy its called developing, poo takes time.

Jmo I think you can do both.. You can pick 2 Olinemen in this draft and sign a vet and have a real competition in TC.. I think we need Starters and quality depth.. Just my opinion..

Fair points. And very much agreed on the bolded.

Not similar prospects but I do look to the Tannehill, Herbert, Jones, Allen, Carr, Matt Ryan crowd in a similar fashion where they were touted, checked a lot of boxes, and they are considered successful. All R1.  They faced criticism from whether it was scouts or sites and they shined past them.  Whether it was people questioning Herbert's leadership gene, Mac Jones being another McCarron, Mahomes being an inconsistent, impatient scramble first guy, or Josh Allen's accuracy concerns.  I remember people bashing that stuff here as well, not wanting these guys.  And it was always similar debates.  Thing is we've never gone OT or QB R1 since Cam so it never mattered in the end.

The bad side of this have been the likes of Mitch, Gabbert, D Jones, Rosen, Locker, Darnold, but it's all dependent on the situation.

If we go QB1, it is almost a forced hand into OL/C trade up R2-3, another late round, and then 1 min in FA.  But bottom line is I see a guy in Pickett (Along with Strong and Corral) with A LOT to be interested in, Rhule here or not.

Line wise, if we're saying we have potential in Brady, have a RT in Moton, then finding a Center and at least 1 above average guard is the immediate goal and absolutely critical to not kill a rookie QB (under hopefully a new coach). It's all about not killing him into Darnold/David Carr mode/surviving to post-Rhule.

John Miller will be gone. Michael Jordan will be gone. Hopefully Erving as well.  So it's attempted line rebuild #300 but at least we'll have Brady LT/G and Moton RT.  And I'd HAVE to imagine we can only go up from here.  Something to note is the center FA class is actually quite interesting with the likes of Ry Jensen, Ted Karras, Justin Britt, Scott Quessenberry.

I'd love the NC State kid or Neal but I won't be pulling a fit.  I still see a lot to be interested in with at least 3 of these QBs.

Elflein is really really bad but I have been wondering lately whether it's better to spend a bunch of mid-level resources on putting together a line with no weak links or to fill the "premium" spots with two quality tackles and just deal with a hole or two in the middle.

So what happens when you improve the oline and you go 8-9 and you are picking 14th, and since its a better QB class all of the good QBs go in the top 10 and you end up picking a QB that you have rated lower than what you can get this year.

This is true..
