RALEIGH, NC. - The Carolina Hurricanes will be without at least two lineup regulars tonight as they host the Columbus Blue Jackets at PNC Arena.

Defenseman Jaccob Slavin (COVID-19 Protocol) and goaltender Antti Raanta (upper-body injury) both will not be available this evening. For Slavin, he will miss at least tonight and Saturday against Vancouver. Brendan Smith is slated to play on defense in the available spot. Ethan Bear is expected to play in Slavin's spot on the second power play unit. Raanta's situation is a bit more uncertain, as earlier this week General Manager Don Waddell announced that the goaltender isn't day-to-day but also isn't long-term.

Additionally, in terms of netminders, Alex Lyon, who did practice Wednesday with the team, was not on the ice with the team at morning skate. That means Jack LaFontaine will back up Frederik Andersen tonight. LaFontaine will wear #80, becoming just the second member in team history to wear it. The other one? Shady 80, Kevin Weekes, who will be in the house tonight as a part of the ESPN+ practice.

Forwards:

Teravainen - Aho - Jarvis

Svechnikov - Trocheck - Fast

Niederreiter - Staal - Necas

Lorentz - Kotkaniemi - Stepan

Defensemen:

Skjei - DeAngelo

Cole - Pesce

Smith - Bear

Starting Goalie:

Andersen

------------------------

Of note: KK is back at center on the 4th line (net front, baby!)- I think he's much better in the middle.

Necas seems to be stuck with Nino and Staal, which only serves to slow his game down and, with his speed, Marty isn't nearly as effective having to pump the brakes because his line-mates can't keep up.

Also, anyone here think the Blue Jackets aren't going to get physical tonight after the 7-goal scoring tsunami from New Years Day? If there's one thing to be relieved about- John Tortorella is no longer the HC in Columbus, otherwise he'd have someone drop the gloves on the opening face-off.

Also, for anyone interested in going in the game, Lane & Associates (official dentist of the Canes) has a link available online to buy some wildly discounted tickets. $45 for club/lower level and $20 for upper deck.

    • It appears that he sees things differently than the QB and OC, so Cam's advice is spot on. It isn't about number of targets, it's about quality of targets. Trust and being on the same page. BY doesn't know how to anticipate what XL is doing. And XL doesn't like where BY is placing passes. One on one film study would go a long way. More for BY than XL though. He has to adjust to XL. I really don't think XL can adjust on the fly.
    • If the team shows improvement, then he shouldn't be in danger of losing his job - even if the record doesn't reflect. This was a very young team (with a lot of new vet starters) that overperformed last season. Somebody's doing something right. Consistency is key with so much youth. And we're potentially looking at new starters at ILB and FS. Those are positions that take time to fully understand the defense. ILB calls the front 7. Safety calls the back 4. Injuries at WR and IOL killed the offense last season. Depth needs to be upgraded. Same with Edge. I think they would have won more games if Pat Jones doesn't go down early. Be smart with the roster and draft. Trade players for assets when it's time to pay them more than they're worth - yes, that includes BY if he doesn't make a pretty big jump. That's one of the many reasons Tillis is as important as anyone to the future of this team.
    • He had heart surgery a while back he looks Fraile I hope he is okay
