Wait, it doesn't take 7 years to make a winning team?!?!?!??!?!?!?

Matt Rhule inherited a team far better than John Fox did, far better than Ron Rivera did, and they made immediate strides.

Meh, I dont agree here. Rhule inherited an empty roster and almost 100 million in dead cap.  Fox and Rivera both had oppportuntiies to go on shopping sprees, and didnt lose 60% of his roster in their first season of coaching.

Not defending anyone, just calling out the rational differences between both coaches.

Are you kidding me?  The 2002 roster had Muhammad, Smith, Walls, Steussie, Mitchell, Donnalley, Peppers, Jenkins, Buckner, Rucker, Fields, Morgan, Grant and Minter and Kasay.  Which one of those would you kick out for one of the 2020 starters?

Fair point.

Nothing that happened 30 years ago plays any role in this. This regime turned it around in 3 years. I'm not going to mock Zac Taylor because the Bengals sucked when he was in grade school. He turned them around in 3 years.

The point is it took decades to find the regime to turn things around

Fair point as well. I was looking mainly at how those teams performed in the last year of the prior coach. That team in 2001 lost like 15 in a row and the year before Rivera came in, the team was awful too.

Yes, absolutely we do.

Zac Taylor has been there for three seasons.

First season, they were terrible.

Second season, they made progress.

Year three, AFC Championship game.

It doesn't take 7 years to rebuild. It is actually comical for any coach to think that it does. 7 years is a huge period of time when the average NFL career comes in somewhere around 2.5 years. A 7 year rebuild is essentially saying that you need nearly 3 full passes on your roster to get it right.

you cant just choose a winoow for a rebuild, lol. The bengals have been in a 30 year drought. They have players from the last 6 drafts still on that roster. Mike Brown has been the "GM" for the bengals for over a decade... is that when the rebuild started?

or do we just choose when the bengals drafted Burrows?

you mean before Fox came in? And then the year after we found our franchise QB. SAme with Rivera.

The one thing the NFL has constantly shown is that HCs go down with their QBs, and succeed with them as well.

It's going to be different for each team.  Getting Burrow was a game changer for the Bengals.  Do you think Taylor gets to the AFC championship with Sam Darnold as his QB?

It's easy to forget how great that roster was.  They lost almost all those games by 3 points or less.  Fox drafter Peppers, Deshaun Foster and Will Witherspoon that year.

I think the makeup of the team is critical. Taking Burrow may have been a no-brainer. But go back to the draft this year, the no-brainer was to take a tackle. They took a risk to go with a star their QB wanted and it paid off. I don't know that that team makes the playoffs if they draft a tackle instead.

I just want the team to win. It's incredibly frustrating knowing that the process for this team is to maybe, possibly be good somewhere around 2025. Any period of time where I have to be jealous of Bengals fans isn't going to be a good time.

Yeah, but I think he’s talking about Tepper AND Rhule talking about it taking 7 years. So no, it shouldn’t take 7 years. It’s taking 7 years because Rhule is way over his head.

Do you think that the Panthers wouldn’t be in a hell of a lot better position if the 49ers, Rams, Titans, Chiefs, etc organizations were making the choices instead of Marty/Rhule?

    • It's not the angle. It's a laughably bad photoshopped photo, and so many Bryce boys thirsty for copium fell for it. Bryce hasn't bulked up at all. He still looks like an amateur golfer.
