Savage…but true

Man just look at who you are agreeing with. Bunch of nonsense. Pickett did nothing to hurt his draft status 6/6 89 yards and a TD, Willis has teams zeroing in on him from his practices and Howell made a bunch of something out of nothing like he did all year. Ridder and Pickett were the only QBs who really had a pocket to work with, but as it’s been stated this game isn’t going to be taken too seriously by scouts. They just wanted to see the players up close, and listen to the interviews etc…

Reaching for a need, especially at quarterback, can set you back for years.

That doesn't make any sense. Just because your 1st rounder busts this year doesn't mean you can't draft another next year (see Cardinals). Unless you trade up for 3 1st rounders, in which that case you would have a point.

Yeah I think it’s an old school way of thinking, back when the 1st round QBs were making a ton of money. Most teams try to give the drafted QBs a few years to develop, so there is that plus the player you could have drafted instead.

Yeah, you could have an underperforming DT or an injured CB!

Dude…Kenny Pickett is not as good as Darnold.  No way man.  He will be 24 as a rookie. 1 year younger than Sam.  Does not have the arm.  Does not have the pedigree Darnold has.  He isn’t near the player.  The amazingly terrible reach he would be astounding to me.  If we pick Kenny Pickett in this draft at all it is a wasted pick.

So? Lots of QB's have gone 6/6 for 89 yards. Darnold had a few first quarters like that this year. He was still garbage. There's no poise there. Pickett looks a lot like Darnold did. Howell is okay I guess, but doesn't wow me. Eye test, these QB's don't have it, and none of them are worthy of a top 10 pick. Despite us having the NFL's worst collection of QB's currently, I certainly would NOT waste it on any of these jags.

Like I was really low on Fields and Jones and Lance last year, and didn't want to pick one in the top 10, but these guys are all a tier or two or even three below even those guys. I think the bust potential is greater than 80%. And for a coach and GM needing to make a home run, that's an awful large gamble to make.

I’m not really a Pickett fan, but he can actually read a defense. I think of him as a more mobile Mac Jones. His arm is adequate, probably below average. Scouts are comparing him to Derek Carr. I’m not a fan of him at 6, but Carr is 100x better than Darnold.

Honestly I was more concerned with the poster you were agreeing with writing off ALL the QBs after watching a Senior Bowl…

LOL…Derek Carr is better than anyone even being discussed.  Big Carr fan.  Pickett is nothing even close to Carr.  Pickett is an amazing bust and if he becomes a backup I will flat out be shocked.  If the Panthers can’t see his red flags we are fugged

Mel Kiper is an evaluator I love.  He is flat out about measurables with every prospect.  His love for Pickett is funny to me but I take it with a grain of salt.

There is where Kiper compares him to Carr. There are some similarities, but I can see concerns that you could have as well.

Because not many teams bail on a first rounder, especially a top ten pick, after one year.

Yeah it's happened, but it's not the norm.

    • Why do we always let our good players go ?   CMC was injured and we let him go . Now we face him Monday night .  We know what Chuba can do . We know what Rico can do .  We signed Chuba so why not sign Rico .   we don't know what we have in Brooks ,  Let him and Eteine go at it in camp . Keep the better player .  Don't let your proven players leave .
    • Oh, I get it. I called him Peewee for the first couple of years. He is too small to be an NFL QB. It wasn't as much of a problem in college, even in the SEC, because every player in the NFL is the size and speed of the biggest 22 on your entire college team.  I was left scratching my head over the pick and what we traded to get him (and yes, that cost analysis is unavoidable). Now we're sunk into the third season and the kid just popped a frikkin' amazing game out there where he showed every mark of what you need in a top end QB. Great passing, mobility, guts, toughness (that ankle must have been killing him) and the ability to put a team on his back to claw back a win. He didn't win it with his arm so much as by getting the ball to the right people at the right time, but that is what the best do. Do I believe he's going to be our QB of the future here? I'm still out on that. Way out on that. But I'm at least intrigued. Can he replicate what he did or even get close? Can he perform well against the power opponents we have left on the schedule? Heck, can he even beat New Orleans this season?  Right now, my personal feeling is that he'd make a heck of a back-up QB. He could prove me wrong and excel, though. Maddening as it is, that'd be the best outcome ever. Or he could have just hit his peak. And that would be bittersweet because then we start the whole thing over again. I don't see a reclaimation project QB out there right now that Canales can work his magic on.
