Frustration appears to be setting in on the Hornets bench. James Borrego said something to James Bouknight while he on the was bench. Bouknight appeared to take offense and stood up to confront Borrego. Then an assistant coach took Bouknight to the locker room.

LaMelo Ball has only played 6 minutes, 17 seconds in the second half. Still on the bench here with the Hornets getting blown out by 26 in the fourth. Ball has 12 points, only 1 turnover.

This and the apparent Bouknight confrontation are reason for concern. Been some weird things happening with minutes all season. Maybe things are bubbling up?

people are so dumb saying JB needs to go about stuff like this. this dude has a long way to go in development and should probably be in the G league. hopefully this gets him sent down so he can develop. jumping up at the coach shooting 36% on the season. damn near dead last on the team and a rookie. how much should you be playing, james?

Bouknight is young and obviously still needs maturing but as the coach you gotta lead and you aren't going to do that by provoking your young talent in front of his teammates. I was skeptical of the Borrego extension at the time and this doesn't make me feel any better about it. Hornets gotta get this figured out or future stars like LaMelo will be playing elsewhere down the road.

Borrego is 114-142. You're over there talking like this man is Gregg Popovich. More like another Steve Clifford tbh 🤷‍♂️

It's not just this. Look at last year and how long it took him to get Lamelo minutes when almost everyone could see he deserved more minutes.  Besides just Lamelo's minutes his player rotation was terrible.   This year has been better, but still not very good. Many times leaving Plumlee in at the end of the game when the other team is just going to foul him because he can't hit a foul shot is just one example.

I'm not saying he should be starting and/or playing 30 minutes a game, but I think Bouknight has played well enough as of late to earn some more minutes. He definitely also could have been given a handful of minutes in some games earlier in the season too.

It doesn't appear that his coaching is doing the defense any favors since he's been here. It's also not like he has this team running like a finely tuned machine.  He is currently struggling for a playoff spot in a poor division.  I realize part of this is they need a center, but in my opinion I haven't been impressed with his coaching.

Gotta consider where the team was before compared to now. The way critics make his player development out to be is how Clifford actually ran this team for 5 years, always opting for vets and not giving the young guys any time. Defense was all he had going for him and it's not like Charlotte was one the top teams in that regard. Under Borrego we've had a ROTY, incredible team chemistry, an exciting young roster with a lot of developing guys, and arguably the top offense in basketball. If the defense wasn't so wildly inconsistent I think he'd easily be a coach of the year candidate. I thought he was in the running last year until the collapse down the stretch when Gordon went down.

Charlotte has literally gone from gutter status to a top team under Borrego and people are too focused on their favorite project getting more play time to see that. Players get the credit for everything good about the team right now and he gets blamed for everything bad.

I think Borrego needs to figure something out with rotations and it is concerning that we've been losing games that we should win. I also think the reporters need to start grilling him more on LaMelo. But Bouk is obnoxious and is digging a hole for himself. You're a rookie. You're not entitled to anything. We have two should be all-stars on this team, you're not going to be rookie of the year or the star and you need to get over yourself. He's going to make himself Malik Monk 2.0 with his attitude. Him playing more doesn't win us any games so I personally don't care how much he plays. Should rookies in general get court time? Sure, of course they need to learn when the bullets are flying and honestly he should be in Greensboro more instead of just sitting on the bench.

This team needs a big man who can anchor our defense and can hit free throws on a consistent basis. If we have that, we win more games and we wouldn't be complaining about this. Hell, if we had beat the Cavs on Friday people wouldn't be saying anything. I love the guys we have, but we've played it out so far and now it's clear this team will be a play-in team which feels unacceptable. I'm willing to break some of this up if we can get a legit big man because I think we see our ceiling here.

But I'm sick of Bouk and wish we'd drafted someone else.

One of the better offenses yeah but top team? That's koolaid talking. The last time we were in the playoffs we were blown off the court by the Pacers and we are on yet another skid. Steve Clifford couldn't compete in a weak Eastern conference and so far Borrego is marginally better in that regard. I love the team too but truth is truth.

If you honestly believe that this team is just marginally better than Clifford's horncats there's no reasoning with you my friend. There's no question the franchise is on the come up a lot fans just refuse to give JB any credit for it. The idea that the team just improved like that in a vacuum and is now being held back by bad coaching is silly to me.

I've said the same about MJ criticism for years. When the going gets tough "Jordan micromanages and is too cheap" when they're doing well it's because the GM's great and he got out of the way.Judge these guys by the results they produce not your preconceptions of them.

    • You should because before the preseason fiasco and the start of the season fiasco, all the reports, including Frank’s responses, were that Fitterer and Reich were in lock step. Remember the press conference where Fitterer talked about both he and Frank saying who they wanted before and after the draft process and that they both picked Young and it was glorious? People got hung up on Tepper saying the point guard analogy in April when Brown was interviewed by a Panthers reporter describing how a QB needs to be a point guard in huge detail. That was in February. I think Tepper was just parroting Brown to make himself look like he knew what he was doing. Mrs. Tepper hugging Bryce always overshadowed CJ saying how he called her Mama Tepp. We fuged up as a team, probably more so because Fitterer always said he had Young as his #1 the year before, probably because we looked at all the QBs that year as well. Reich’s love for CJ started when he got on the hot seats for frankly doing a horrific job. He's been in the league a long time and has a lot of media friends and that was a face saving CYA which we know well with many years of Hurney. Still amazing to think how much better the team was under Rhule/Hurney before Fitterer got any control when Rhule was on the hot seat.
    • I loved jStew but let’s not forget he was almost always held out from practice  due to some nagging injuries
