Albert Breer on 2022 QB Class

I'm not crazy about this QB class overall, but I would be shocked if at least 1 or 2 don't become at least average to above average starters.  You have to remember, average would actually be an upgrade for a lot of teams.

If we did go QB I would probably feel a little better about trading down, that extra pick might mitigate some of the risk.

Could you trade down to that 12-14 range and maybe get a QB you like, that would get you an early 2nd.  Could you upgrade the OL there?  Maybe?  If you felt good about BC or could add a LT in FA, early 2nd would be a pretty good spot to pick up interior OL help.  I wouldn't feel as good about finding a LT there. For that to work a lot has to happen, I have a feeling trading down might not be easy this year.

Trey Lance is a great athlete who sat for a year at SF, soaking up what an NFL QB needs to know.

Zach Wilson has a rocket arm and the charisma to lead an NFL team.  I don't know if that will happen in NY because they are such a dysfunctional franchise.  But Wilson is a player.

I can't see Howell being anywhere near either of those two.

Great athlete =/= successful QB. I have doubts about his accuracy. We’ll know more next year about him.

Howell has a rocket arm too. I agree he doesn’t have the charisma of Wilson.

Just build the OL and ideally do so after trading down slightly.  Again I would sign Mitch Trubisky cheap and roll with him and Sam for now.  Keep Cam as #3 short yardage guy if he wants to stay

All this knowing next draft we definitely will have to find our QB

Yup, looking like the dude in our avatars will be a Jet or a Giant.  Heck depending on his Combine and Pro Day, some speculate he may even be a Jaguar.  He's really not that far behind Neal at all and some think he has a better upside than Neal.

Yeah, for all the Howell stans....you know we can just get Trubisky for nickels and won't cost us any draft capital, right? And Trubisky may be a better NFL QB than Howell(wouldn't surprise me).

I don't expect Trubisky to come here and light it up but that is one of the better low risk, low cost gambles for a QB competiton with Sam I Am.

I said the very same thing last year. No reason we weren’t the option for Trubisky. We were set up perfect to bring him in and still are. Others disagreed, but I’d sign him right now for 4-5 years at 4-5 mil per year. Worst case, we have a tremendous upgrade at backup QB. Best case, we’re in the playoffs and he’s already proven he can win.

I would have taken Wentz, Trubisky, Winston or any number of other reclaimation QB's over Darnold. He was obviously a bust. But our braintrust thought he looked like Matt Stafford.

That speaks volumes.

I mean, if you can't understand what that means, I am not sure you really are going to understand much about even rudimentary prospect evaluation.

You pointed out nothing. Here, let me try to help the discussion on why I think your assumption is wrong….

I don’t think Wilson has a stronger arm than Howell.

I don’t think Lance is more accurate than Howell.

While his running style isn’t aesthetically pleasing, he proved to be a more effective runner than both.

Hes built to withstand a beating which pairs well with our Oline.

So what exactly does he lack physically compared to those two? Straight line speed? Height?
