In May of 2019, I got un-expectantly released from a contracting job in Iraq.  Very painful and I lived off unemployment and my military retirement for 4 1/2 months.  I kept plugging and in September of 2019 I got one of the best overseas jobs one can get.

My point is, be strong, be confident and remember God won't ever give you more than you can handle. Better times are coming.

Good Luck

I have to find something soon.  Unemployment is 12 weeks at $350 a week.  I can't live on that.  I asked for forbearance on my mortgage.  So I'll get some relief there.

I meant get on with a big lender here and work from there.

Not sure if that's possible, but there is a LOT of money heading this way right now.

I'm trying.  I used to work at Wells.  I'm calling around to old bosses.

I'd be pushing for a commission spot if I could, but I have worked that way for almost 20 years...wouldn't ever take a salary or hourly at this point.

Good luck man...don't know about the money, but SECU is usually hiring, may can just be a placeholder for you for a while.

I understand the frustration but you absolutely can leave Charlotte.  It is not impossible and you know that.  It would be extremely hard.  However, don’t feel defeated.  All and I mean all options are open to you now.  Your frame of mind should move to opportunities.  Don’t limit your options.

This includes switching fields all together.  What do you love doing?  Find something you like doing and you will be great.  Money only matters if you don’t have enough to satisfy yourself

Maybe, all depends. In state, likely. I don’t know OP situation is or NC law, but if he is divorced or separated, a lot of states will take any custody you have if you move out of state. It happened to my family in Michigan. My dad nearly went bankrupt because of it despite having a great job offer out of state. And he most likely can’t take kids with

It’s an absurd law considering things like child support. Custody laws are complex and in a lot of ways complete BS for a male.

@fitty76 Standard STAR responses info

STAR is where you speak about a Situation or Task and the Action you took that had Results

  • Situation/Task:  Describe a situation when...
  • Action: What did you do / Walk through any steps you took
  • Result:  How did things work out

Some example categories that you should think about for the above bullets include but are not limited to:

  • your own growth and improvement
  • mentoring or being a role model for others
  • respecting differences / valuing others' voices
  • making things happen today
  • overcoming an obstacle

Some example questions you may run into: https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/interviewing/how-to-use-the-star-interview-response-technique

Yes, it's homework.

But it's valuable homework to have thought about the types of answers/situations you may be asked about during an interview.  Especially if your prospective employer follows STAR strictly, where they are asking every candidate the exact same questions so they have the best comparisons to go with.

No, he needs a job, I'm in that industry, was trying to see if I could help at all...not trying to get him to do anything.

I'm confused as to why they are laying folks off though, especially given this market...that said, if he only works on re-fi's that could be it.  If I were in the lending biz, I'd be working for a Guaranteed Rate, or something like that...eat what you kill type situation...I wouldn't want to be on hourly or a salary.

Definitely the refis.  Even if he's not strictly doing them if that business completely dries up a lot of people are going to get the axe at big companies.

Sorta what I was trying to get at...banks are losers...go work in the mortgage industry, not the banking industry.

P.S. we have had a VERY long bull run in the housing and stock markets...and although Covid hit a lot of people hard, the last decade has been a very good one.  We all need some cushion...and we need to make sure that we are living below our means heading into the next 10 years.

  • 4 weeks later...

poo so I got laid off last week and I am a mess... I have 3 kids and a mortgage so severance just do for so much... So I'm trying to stay positive and just look for a job like crazy.

At least yesterday I a little bit of fun, one of my kids was taking some maths help classes with an online tutor (not anymore, I can't keep on paying that)... but it's as if the lord knew I needed a laugh. The class was interrupted by the teacher's son walking behind her very visible to the camera, in boxers drinking something and belching his butt off... I laughed so bad (and asked for another session please, I mean I need that money and afterwards the kid couldn't concentrate because he was laughing)...

So at least I got a good laugh, but oh man... Good luck to everyone struggling here, cheers for some good days ahead!

    • and they don’t get paid and teams don’t keep playing them
    • Then if he needs time to grow up and he is going to sign an extension in needs to be a 3 year, 20m AAV. He doesn't deserve to get paid like a top 10 QB right now because he's not. Daniel Jones is getting 14m and is playing top notch football.  He may have had some better games, but his mechanics and footwork are still terrible when he feels any pressure, real or not. When he feels good, he steps into his throws like he should. When he doesn't, it's that body squared up or jumping arm toss or tip toe lob. His fumbling is a huge problem. He cant run QB sneaks. He cant really play from under center because his drop backs are terrible and he needs to be far back to get enough gapping to see the field. That's not top 10 QB contract worthy.  And let's not pretend that Bryce is some victim in all of this. Remember him packing on 20 lbs before the combine for the weigh in and walking around in a hoodie the entire time or practicing that S2 test that no one has mentioned before or since so he'd have better results, or riding that hype train like the wheels weren't ever going to fall off. Stroud got roasted and torn apart because of a "leaked" S2 result. He was being portrayed as an idiot while Bryce was being portrayed as a savant. All Stroud ever said was watch me play football. He proved his point.  Bryce did everything he could to make himself the number 1 overall pick and when that happens, guess where you're going? To a bad team, likely with a new coach and it's probably going to be full of dysfunction especially if the owner is Dave Tepper. But the real dysfunction came because Bryce wasn't Reich's choice for QB. He wanted Stroud because Stroud fit the type of offense he ran better than Bryce ever could. That's why he lost interest as soon as he was drafted. He was forced to play Bryce when it was obvious he wasn't ready to show off Tepper's shiny new draft pick. No HC is going to come to a team when he gets no choice over who he has as a QB to build around and he has to reinvent the wheel when the easiest thing to do was just buy the wheel that fit to begin with. Tepper lied to Reich all the way up until draft day, then he made that pick. Then Reich checked out, and i don't blame him one bit. And I'll be clear, I didn't want Reich. I wanted Steichen because of what he's doing in Indy or Ryans because I thought he would make one hell of a leader and HC.  Reich was a HC with no control over his own team. I put the majority of what's gone wrong involving Bryce on Tepper. The trade gave up too much in picks and DJ to build around him, we had a horrid GM who couldn't draft or build a roster, a QB forced to play before he's ready, an owner that thinks he knows more than football people.    There's a lot of moving pieces in all of this, but we cant pay Bryce 50m AAV at the end of this season while he figures it out, and the 5th year doesnt make sense either if we're a run heavy offense with Bryce as game manager. You dont need a 30m, 5th year option QB for that. If he's not there developmentally, he's not there.  Unfortunately, there isnt time to just calm down. He plays like a game manager this year and we have to move on. You dont give game managers huge contracts behind the highest paid oline in football, especially when you need to sign your LT. Any journeyman can give us Bryce level results for 15m less per year. Just the way it is. If there was more time, maybe. Unfortunately there isn't. Just the way it is.
    • We’ve had opportunities to take 2 of the top 5 Cs in the game and instead we took TMJ and Johnathan Brooks. Our drafts since 2017 have been 1 player per draft and then huge misses on lots of really good NFL players (who the huddle have talk about in the draft threads). It’s been mentioned here so many times to draft more OL once you get to the 2nd and beyond since C/G talent is top tier in day 2 and lots of surprise day 3 guys. Taking Brooks over Frazier just looks worse and worse as our OL helps Chuba and Rico look great and Frazier would be a large improvement over Mays.
