I don't disagree with any of that.  But I do think QBs like Michael Vick have changed the league because they change how kids play the game.  They see a pro QB do all the things that Vick or Cam did on TV and they want to play like them.

Maybe they're not winning the Super Bowl year in and year out, but I think it has had a long term effect on the overall play of the QB position in the league.

I get that, but it's still the passers who win the big games. And if you're not playing to win the big ones, what are you playing for?

Exciting highlights? Sure those are fun, but that's not how you build a consistent winner.

The prototype has changed greatly over the years though. No QB was knocked for lack of mobility on the '80s but those prototype pocket statues get significantly downgraded in the .modern era.

The guy who won more Super Bowls than anyone else in the modern era was about as mobile as I am.

Brees, Manning and the other Manning weren't anything special in that department either.

Willis is fools gold.  If he couldnt elevate Liberty and he is pretty bad against better comp then whats the point?  Quincy Avery says he has worked with a private qb coach since 9th grade and he still has these incredible bad habits I just dont see NFL coaches raising his level of play.  The throwing off the back foot, trying to muscle throws, simply taking off needlessly in the pocket are just bad habits that will be astronomically hard to coach out of him.  Then you get to his size, where like it or not could be an issue.

If, If we decide to go qb at 6 (and I pray to buddha we dont) then it has to be Pickett since he can start from day one.

In 2020 Liberty had their best record ever at 10-1, beating Coastal in their bowl game. How is that not elevating the team?

Those guys were drafted 20+ years ago. That's the problem. If you're relying on having to have a Brady or Manning level football mind... well, you're probably fuged.

He was also drafted in the 6th round and played for 20 years.  He's an anomaly.  Its not repeatable or something you can build a model around.

Josh Allen was pretty close to being a champion this year, and we all know how close Cam was in 2015.  Colin Kapernick was close with the 49ers.  We're talking about a handful of games here where the outcome is slightly different, and the resulting story is completely changed.

It was a shame Mahomes couldn’t elevate Texas Tech going 4-8, 7-6 and 5-7 during his three years as a starter 😎

Not necessarily to that level, but a mind like Stafford or Burrow is enough.

Mind you, I'm not saying guys have to be immobile. Just that the whole idea of taking a super athlete who doesn't have the other tools and thinking you can teach him those things is fool's gold.

If they can't read a defense on at least a medium level as a senior in college, there's a good chance they're not going to learn it on the fly in the pros.

But it wasn't, and it didn't.

And on an annual basis, it's still the guys who can read a defense and throw an accurate pass who win.

I know some of you have asked me my opinion on my top QBs in this class, and I just had an article with my thoughts on it published on Catcrave. Feel free to ask any follow up questions and I will answer best I can. I have watched a lot of tape on these guys this year 🙂

Yes, but as a high pick you really want to see the tools as well. I would still not take Mac Jones due to his limitations. But that’s me.
