Panthers are officially 35 million over the cap with the recent moves. If Darnold is included in the deal and we collect on the 6.1 bonuses from Fox. We will be just under 60 million under the cap. That does not include Watson's cost.

Atm D4 would cost 35 million and leave us 25million. However, if he is restructured at time of trade.... get your popcorn...

I would guess we could fit Tunsil in as well right?

I dont believe I've shown any emotions. This has been the most discussion worthy that has occurred in months here. Dont hate that I want in the fun of conversing potential outcomes, ha. I get joy in this poo.

Ill be the first to jump into a backup plan thread too if we lose out.

Yeah, If I am honest, I would like Watson but understand that there are benefits if we do not get him--like players and picks.  Imagine, long term, that we lose in 2022.  Fire Rhule, draft a stud QB, and still have cap room for the core.   Is that worse than signing a guy who might miss 1/3 of the regular season games on suspension?  Either way, 2022 is toast.

that would be a good backup plan for us. Baker can most likely be had for a conditional 3rd because of the browns vocality around trading him. They reduced his value.

Exactly. I'm still team LT this draft, but if we're deadset on a rookie QB, go get Baker for less value and let him get rocked this year while we fix our OL over the next 18 months and let the rookie develop.

I don't know that Watson will sign an instant extension, but he almost surely restructures wherever he ends up. It only benefits him and the team. I'd expect to see about $25M converted to a bonus where he goes, spreading it across the remaining four years at around $6-7M per year. Would open up about $15-18M.

I mean, yes. However, I'd think Tepper would advise Scott to go after Teron Armstead to absolutely fug the Saints for going in on Watson. If Armstead signs elsewhere than the saints have to eat 3 years of void years for armstead... that would cost them 20million total in cap. We would be cash strapping them for years to come.

I do wonder if Tepper is helping with Watson's legal case at all. Like paying for resources...

Gotta imagine something like that is happening behind the scenes. I don't think anyone here can disagree... Tepper wants to win and I believe he will empty his personal pockets to do so.

This is why the Saints are in deep trouble if this does not resolve by Wednesday. Armstead is likely to have several massive offers and will not sit on them for long.

    • Some people have been beaten down so long they have no standards. Can't be reasoned with.
    • Getting better, might be fairly charitable. We finished 1-3 with the pressure on. That is for sure not trending up.  I don’t see a clear run of performances that prove he has taken it to another level. Not yet.  I would say he played really well in the WC game. And folded on that last series where we still had a chance. I think he threw one good ball. That last series is the kind of thing a player is supposed to learn from and not repeat. We have to see him do it before we can credit him for doing it.    I would also say he has not done enough of playing at his ceiling and what we should expect as the game in game out norm is still not established.  We gonna get MNF in SF or we gonna get the WC game? Seattle or Atlanta yardage record?   Besides that he has three years of horrendous play to start the season hanging over him. Are we going to get that again or will he be over that? We can’t know that. Mind you, that isn‘t two of three it is three of three he has yet to play well to start the year as a pro. Ofer.    So, many questions remain.    As far as weapons and help… said it before. Fix the OL so we can protect him.  It is time for a 1.1 pick in his 4th season, third year in the same offense, to elevate the players we have given him. You can’t keep up the level of investment dedicated to propping him up, you have to prop up the defense too and get some balance.
    • Yeah, just got back to the house from doing some actual work, hopefully they create some better chances in the second half. 3-1 looks tough for you
