yet he stunk for 4 years at Pitt.  Had one good season in year 5 that happened to be in a down year for the ACC (which is still weak in a strong year).

We are going to spend the #6 overall QB on a guy who is basically on par as a prospect overall as a Will Grier.  But Grier at least was drafted rightfully in the 3rd round.  Which is what would have happened to Pickett in a good draft class too.

He was average for 4 years but was a Heisman finalist last season and was very good.  He isn't Will Grier but if you feel that way enjoy it.

So by ACC having a down year, you mean Clemson sucked? Because that was the only real difference. Well maybe besides Pitt and WF having an up year..

You and I have a dramatically different definition of stunk.

On top of the ACC power having an offense that made the Carolina Panther offense look good last season? Well...

the Coastal Division Pitt plays in was super weak last year.  Miami and UNC finished as top 25 teams the year prior.  Both stunk last year.   ND was part of the ACC the year prior too who finished top 5 with Clemson and they were removed from the equation.

ACC was definately weaker Pickett's one good season than it was the season prior.

Adding ND to the ACC for ONE year due to covid doesn't help your cause.

UNC and MIA are never consistent ACC contenders. They're usually pretty meh. They had down years. Pitt and wake forest had up years. So looks like a wash to me,in the overall ACC standing.

Clemson is the only true contenders in the ACC. They were completely underwhelming. They were the only real difference in the conference.

yeah, so was Will Grier.  Will Grier was Heisman finalist and was very good his last season.  He actually had 2 very good seasons back to back(unlike Pickett).   Grier also played a tougher SOS in both his good seasons than Pickett did in his one.

If Pickett was coming into the NFL last season or even Will Grier's seasons....no one would be talking about spending a 1st round pick on him.  And certainly not the #6 overall pick.

Who you play in a year is who you play in a year.   2021 was a super easy schedule vs teams Pitt played in 2020.

ND joining certainly is relevant.  Pitt had to play them in 2020.   Didn't in 2021.  It's also relevant if UNC or Miami or Clemson were having good years or bad years.   If you are simply contrasting how weak or strong the ACC was from one year to another.

I don't want to draft Pickett, but calling him a 1-year wonder is a little disengenuous.

I went back and looked at the covid-filled 2020 season.  Pitt was 6-5, but he did not play in 2 of the losses.  2 of his losses were by 1 point to BC and NC State.  So he was a couple points away from an 8-1 record.

His only bad game was against Clemson, where he tossed 4 of his 9 ints.

Again, not interested in him - rather go with Darnold.  Just trying to be fair.  He didn't actually stink in 2020.  I did not look at 2017-2019.

he didn't stink.  But he wasn't good.   He had 1 good season in a 5 year career.

I'd characterize it as a couple good years, then a freakishly good year.

Again - not advocating for him.  I would much rather wait a year as the next class looks stacked.  But if Pickett is picked, I will remain positive and learn to live with it.

13 TDs, 9 INTs.  That was 2020 and 2019.

That’s a low bar for good season.

You could find many dudes that has good seasons with good stats and say “look they are the same”.  Pickett is more talented than Grier IMO.  If you don’t think so fine

    • Names I'd keep an eye on... Coby White,  Jalen Suggs, Amen Thompson  and Stephen Castle...  3 teams except Orlando has checked on Melo before and rumblings of sours getting rid of fox too. I'd think they think Melo and Wemby would make them nuclear out west.
    • Well he somehow had 12 preseason carries for not playing. He also has 20 carries in the regular season, not three. He has actually played in about 7% of the offensive snaps for this regular season(33% of the special teams snaps). This isn't stuff you have to make up, these are very easily referenced statistics, man.
    • It's not common for a RB to recover from two ACL tears in the same knee. It's fairly rare. You are correct that it isn't the career ender that it used to be but there is also the fact that we appear to have largely moved on with the additions of Dowdle and Etienne.  Dobbins is a very good example. He has basically missed 54% of his career regular season games since he came into the league in 2020. It will end up being 57% at the conclusion of this season. It's a big contributing factor to why he is on this third NFL team in 6 years. It's certainly possible that may be 4 by the beginning of next season. I would say there is very little chance that Brooks ever contributes in any meaningful way in Carolina. Possibly with another team but I am extremely skeptical of his future here because of those injuries and because of the roster.
