Fields + Sauce vs. Willis + Horn

  1. 1. Knowing what you know about Fields/Horn after one year and the current state of our roster, which combination would you prefer long-term?

    • Fields in '21 & Gardner in '22

    • Willis in '22 & Horn in '21

Fields/Gardner for sure. If Fields was in this draft class he'd be the slam dunk #1 QB prospect which was a point I made last year around this time - Fields had the make up of a #1 overall draft pick in most draft classes. Last year's QB class was just extremely strong on paper.

I do have to wonder though... just how bad were his interviews, OSU coach feedback, etc? Because him slipping to 9th overall still doesn't make sense to me.

So another slam dunk losing season?

Fitts had alluded to it. At some point, you have to stop pushing the chips off to the future and start swinging at QB and keep swinging until you get a hit. And as we've found out, cast off vets have by far the lowest batting percentage. The vets we actually want want no part of us.

I thought I remembered him not being great during interviews, but you can't trust anyone during that timeframe in the NFL or media.

I wasn't a big fan of his, but I do like him more than Willis...I probably prefer Pickett or Corral to both though.

I'll be shocked if Pickett doesn't bust hard. The guy just isn't that good.

Absolute ceiling IMO is Kirk Cousins. Floor is David Carr.

During draft time I always look forward to @Soul Rebel insights, but it seems like you are having the same issues others are having with this draft.

Good question- Im no fields fan at all, but for me Sauce(special player) and Fields are clear the choice.

Im even ready to draft Sauce given the riches at CB, Im that into his game.

    • Disclaimer:  In June, I am usually optimistic.  In October, a policeman with a bullhorn is telling me that I have a lot of life ahead of me and to think about my loved ones as I gaze down upon him from my rooftop.   Having said that, I think our offense (down the stretch) was good enough to play KC and Philly tough.  So how many games would this offense have won if they played the entire season like they did in November-January and if they had a better defense?   If you could stretch the last nine games over an entire season and put a solid defense on the other side, I see 5 wins becoming 7 or 8.  Down the stretch, the Panther D surrendered 30 points or more in 5 of the final 7 games and managed to win 2 of those 5.  If they can win 40% of games in which their defense surrenders 30 points or more, then the math indicates, had that been the case all season, the Panthers should have won 6 or 7 games with their defense surrendering 30+ points.   This season, we are much better at WR (TMac, Renfrow, Horn, and I expect XL to be a lot better).  Bryce is confident and now a leader.    The Achilles' heel of the 2024 defense, the DL, seems to be very solid.  We got back Horn and Jackson on the corners, Smith-Wade is improving better than expected, we signed a stud Safety.  Derrick Brown returns.  While the D is not there yet, it is going to be better.   So if we ended the second half of 2024 playing at a level that should have produced 6-7 wins, better WRs and a better defense could result in 9 wins or more.
