Rich Eisen on Pelissero's QB piece

What I took away from this clip is that if McAdoo really rated Josh Allen and Mahomes higher in their respective draft classes, then it's not out of the question that Malik might be QB #1 on our list. McAdoo did mention that he would rather swing for the fences in a QB instead of take a safe bet. We'll see how much pull McAdoo really has.

If you can convince me that Malik has the same upside as Josh Allen and Mahomes but it'll take one year to realize it, I would support the pick.

Fields should have been the pick even with Darnold and the 5th year option. If Darnold actually had worked out we could trade Fields above any of these current prospects easily for an extra 1st, or kept him on the cheap ready to go for next year. Obviously we should have kept Teddy and taken Fields but I still wanted him after the Darnold trade.

We don’t have a time machine…sorry

Really easy to second guess now

I was saying this a year ago.

I disliked the Darnold trade and not taking Fields the minute they both happened so I haven't second guessed anything, I'm actually sticking with my prediction that Fields is going to be a good QB after not having a great first experience with Chicago

I wanted Fields as well…but seriously that is over now.  Live in the now brother

It's always either "there's no QB worth drafting" or "all the QBs will be gone before we pick". According to the Huddle it's never the right time to draft a QB.

You've been a big "keep swinging" guy on this topic.

Do you want to draft one this year?

At some point you have to start swinging. What's the bigger opportunity cost, drafting a bust of a QB with good prospects at other positions available or drafting a good prospect at another position while passing on a legit QB?

If you need a QB then QB is always your #1 need and your #2 need almost becomes irrelevant. If we were smarter with how we targeted vet stop gaps we wouldn't be so desperate.

It's not about the positions. It's about the players available.

It's one thing to draft Justin Herbert over Joe Thomas, but quite another to take Jimmy Clausen over him.

The whole reason we have like 30 threads on all this is because this staff made the now incredibly frustrating. That said I'd take Neal/Ikey. If gone then Malik or trade back. If we do have a trade back I'm sure we'll have a 50 page thread of new theories in real time during the draft

FYI: If you wanna read Pelissero's full article, the link is here...

I think there's a lot of smoke and mirrors going on. I'm thinking that the one NFC coach discussing Willis sounds kinda familiar...

From the sound of these quotes, it seems to me that the top four are the only four to five that even have a chance of becoming regular NFL starters.

Some Huddlers want to take a swing. If I'm taking one, it will be with the most enigmatic guy whose tough as sh¡t, has the arm talent and the arm strength to make legit NFL throws, has shown an unquestioned trajectory of growth, has tremendous upside, and is a proven leader. I'm taking the "dude"...that dude.

I find it interesting that several different scouts here compare Willis to Lance. One said he is a better prospect. I mentioned this on here and some Huddlers lost it. If we had a better staff to develop him, I’d be ok with Willis at 6. However with Rhule and Co I’d rather trade down and take a Howell/Corral if we go the QB route.

...Always a gamble and never a sure thing... I like Willis...dual threat QB that gives us the best chance at winning... but that may influence rhule being back again. We need a competent QB and we can't rest until we find one. Another swing coming up...hope its not strike 3.
