Tepper has been quoted saying Rhule has at least 5 years, lol!

"Will he be around beyond this year? Absolutely not."  FIFY

Yeah, my guess is he is looking for one last cash grab, so I don't know if he will get it here. I will be generally perturbed if it is in the 8 figures range of pay for a single season.

$6-9 mil for one year is fine with me.

We notched 39 sacks as a team last season, I think this level of production could be exceeded in 2022, even if it is just cracking into the 40's -- https://www.nfl.com/teams/carolina-panthers/stats

In 2015, we had 44 sacks -- https://www.panthers.com/team/stats/2015/reg

Looking at these two lists, turnovers, sacks allowed, and our offensive touchdowns man sheesh...we sucked something bad.

We have GOT to do something about QB, Sam's not it, and expecting a 3rd rounder to save us is a fool's errand. I like Matt's talent but it's hard for me to think he'll be ready Week 1.

YGM, has done what a yound 2nd round pick should do...and that's ''flash''.

This is a big year for him, and adding (Dunlap) helps with the rotation, people can't honestly think Burns, YGM, and Haynes are enough.

I like the Barno addition, but he's also a rookie, veteran presence is need on the DL / in the defensive room to further solidify this group.

I'm also not worried about the 2023 cap, room / money can always be created, people that haven't see the ''cash over cap'' breakdown need to give it a listen / watch.

The salary cap is ''fluid''.

This.

Competition pushes people to be better. YGM has flashed and has potential, but this is the year he needs to produce consistently. Dunlap is a strong rotational piece, not a three-down DE.

It's funny that folks think Burns/YGM/Haynes is a strong defensive end unit and that a 33-yr old FA in late June is a bad thing.

Our DL is very thin and could be considered a weakness.  Dunlap at the right price would be a solid move.  I wish we could find a decent cheap DT as well.

Brown / Ioannidis - Starters

Roy / Nixon / Hoskins - Depth

I don't hate that, I think people forget just how good Nixon looked last year, and overall we held up inside, it was the perimeter where I feel like we got hurt versus the run.

However, just fielding a competent offense will help with the defensive numbers by allowing them to rest, and hopefully preventing teams from having the luxury of running with a lead versus a worn out defense.

Will Dunlap take this team from a non-playoff team to a playoff team?  Again, Rhule sending mixed messages.  He goes from a seemingly young roster-building approach to these type moves, which is more win now signaling.   Apparently he can't make up his mind.  It's like 'I want to build this roster through young guys'.  *SQUIRREL* Older FA veteran available....must sign now!!!!

What have we done this offseason to signal we're taking a "young roster-building approach"?  Because we drafted a QB?  That'd be a strange approach to decide to take in Rhule's third season.  Every single team needs productive vets, including developmental ones.  Of course Rhule is trying to field a competitive team this year, as every coach does every year.  I think there's a certain negative connotation with "win now" mode, which generally implies that a coach is mortgaging the future to capitalize off of a closing window of opportunity (usually involving a roster littered with older vets and/or key players expected to hit FA).  I really doubt Dunlap's signing is going to mortgage our future, but we'll have to wait and see the details.

This was his deal with Seattle -- You'd have to think we're looking at a number likely smaller than that ''average amount''.

1 year - that maxes around 6M, based on incentives is what I'd be thinking.

Team signed with2021-2022

CONTRACT:2 yr(s) / $13,600,000 SIGNING BONUS$7,000,000 AVERAGE SALARY$6,800,000 GTD AT SIGN:$8,500,000 TOTAL GTD:$8,500,000

Roy gets tossed around pretty regularly and Hoskins is still a bit of a question mark.  I wouldn't mind throwing a vet in there for depth/experience.

I'm still ok with the young guys going into year 2 / 3 on the interior, can't see a big improvement on the FA landscape cost vs production comparison wise.

If you have watched an NFL game in the last 15 years you would notice that defensive lines rely on heavy rotation.

Really?  That is truly fascinating! Tell me more.....🙄

Splitting reps or even starting a likely one-year mercenary over a 2nd round pick that needs a lot of PT to prove if he's the right guy going forward isn't the smartest move.  We are talking about the Panthers though.

We have historically either cut bait with young under-performing DEs by year 3 or given them year 3 as their 'prove it' year (outside of Peppers).   Rucker and Hardy were nothing special in years one and two, but took off in year 3.  They also were tabbed the as starters in season 3.  I'm not sure they would have blossomed like that had they been heavily rotated or usurped by a short-term FA pass rush specialist.

YGM played 31% of defensive snaps last season.

they can easily up that percentage if they feel it is necessary. No DL guy is playing 100% of snaps there is gonna be a rotation.
