So are there new rules this season that prevent the panthers form re-signing Baker long-term after the season? They also have his rights via tagging as well. The one year is a blessing given it could go off rails too. Perfect type of risk for the panthers to take. The point of it all is too improve team talent and with this trade the QB room has improved.

marginally, with creating a headache in the offseason

listen to the podcast its almost 100% about the panthers from national writers breaking down the trade, the roster, the strategy, long term short term and what the team is trying to do overall.

spoiler: its not pretty from an outsiders perspective

Wasn't that long ago, really...

What made it stick out in my mind though was that he found some no-name reporter and tried to build them up as if they were a better source than established writers like Mary Kay Cabot and Tony Grossi 😆

He asked me about Baker and such, I told him 99.99999999999474747% Baker was done with Browns. The relationship was over. Old sizzle fought hard that Baker would remain and chance hed play. False given the news....

Consistent pattern: He swore the Texans would never trade Watson and they'd make him play too.

I know the futures deal is very cloudy, not going to say its rainbows and full of cap space. Cuts, Burns, QB, insane high numbers for "good" players are coming. Worry about that after the season, lots can happen to change all the outcomes for the off-season. If panthers find a true franchise QB all those issues will be minor. Baker is another attempt to do that.

It's not pretty from my perspective.

how do you define "finding a true franchise qb"?

Sometimes I wonder if it's worse to have a mix of competent and incompetent team leadership rather than just incompetence all around.

The hard part when you've got a mix is sometimes it's tough to tell where the incompetence lies.

I actually like his attitude. He's got a chip on his shoulder coming here which is good and is much better than Darnold on a baseline level. What i don't like though is that it seems he relies pretty heavily on play action. It remains to be seen that he can slice and dice.

Do you have a few hours?

I know its wasting my time if I made a case for Baker, you crystal clear hate the guy. Im not a fan either, but hes a panther and until the playoffs are mathematically out. I want to win, even with Baker.

    • Kon is a damn stud but it’s not any individual player’s team. All of the “big 3” are incredibly and equally important IMO. And LaMelo makes Kon way better (look at his shooting splits with LaMelo on the floor vs without. Also Moose and even Miles are important cogs. Honestly think we’re 1 piece away from being legit top contenders if the young guys continue to develop the next year or two. I trust this FO to be patient to find that piece within the next 2-3 years and not force anything. Plenty of time and even without adding anyone we have the pieces in place overall already to compete with any team.
    • We lost 2 very close and winnable games against top teams in the league while missing 3 critical players despite 2 of our top 3 players shooting unusually terribly. Still split the 4 games that Moose and Miles were suspended, winning the most important one vs the Hawks. This ain’t yo mama’s Hornets man. Hopefully Coby can go soon but even if not Moose and Miles are huge additions for our starting lineup and bench rotations. Schedule is pretty tough after these next 4 but I think we’ll take care of business the next 4 to get to .500 then finish slightly above .500 after that to get a 7 or 8 seed. Keep it rolling boys. Also Kon is having an insanely historic rookie season as a shooter. Like truly can’t believe my eyes watching this kid level of historic. Man what a fuging home run of a draft pick and exactly what this team needed to take that next step forward. He’s gonna shatter the rookie 3 point and franchise 3 point records. Has a real chance to be the 2nd best 3 point shooter ever or dare I say even get to Curry’s level (as a pure shooter, Curry obviously has way more to his game that has made him a GOAT).
    • I hear you but yeah like you say, above average. His numbers were good. You’d think it would be a no brainer. Anyhow… I guess the new staff is also fine with him walking?    I hope if we sign him there isn’t some secret issue of his that led to him not being valued.
