tbh I think Baker will be pretty loyal to Carolina because they are the only ones to "believe" in him. I think if its between one team paying slightly more and carolina he would go Carolina. (this is all based on if he plays really well this year)

I don't think that is true at all. After all, he had to change his guaranteed contract so that he had to "earn" his money. Then he shows up to have to compete for the job. If anything, they have shown they have very little belief in him at all.

This may very well be to rehabilitate his career for a better opportunity, because we basically have him on a one year "prove it" deal.

Mayfield is definitely capable of a top 8/probowl type year. But he also can get injured and have a year like last year. You pretty much have to give him the contract/make him your franchise QB if he has a great year. If he has just a good year, I imagine the Panthers will explore options in the draft, or check on Lamar Jackson/Huntley trades (both are free agents and Tepper will do anything to get a franchise QB)

Crazy hard pass on Lamar

Even if you don't consider the cost it would take to get him, either the trade value or the contract we'd have to give him, I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.

He's never been a great passer, his one big passing year was just wide open receivers all year long, their OC was outstanding that year.  If Cam's body couldn't hold up to the rigors of being a running QB, Lamar is going to breakdown even faster.

I think the Ravens believe this to be true too, because if not, there is no way they wouldn't have already locked him up to a long term deal, they want to see what happens with him this year both in regards to health and his passing ability.

Hoping he has a solid year. Would love to sign for a 3 year extension, 80% guaranteed at the Tannehill/Jimmy G price tag of about 28 a year assuming we win 9 games or more.

The QB market has exploded so those deals aren't likely to be relevant for anything outside of a fringe starter type.

If he balls out, it's gonna be expensive to resign him.

Serious question. How do we tag him if we are -35 million in cap space and the tag for a QB is 30 million?

Its not easy, but not impossible either. The tag, doesnt really work, a long-term deal does. That way the first year will be something like 5-8 million in cap numbers.

Some cuts.

Brian Burns in on his 5th year deal, another long-term type deal with the first year being small would help too.

It can be done.

But can it be done w a 30 million dollar tag? I don't think Bakers a long term solution. I do agree a small 2 year deal would work best.

If he plays like Delhomme 2.0 I’d be tickled

Baker does have the comeback magic......I think you will be pleasantly tickled. But at-last, didnt you pledge thyself for the beaguals fandom or was that just your emotional side talking?

They were my playoff team last year to pull for… that franchise has unfortunately a lot of hapless similarities to ours

It cann't. Unless massive cuts or the top 6 players re-do their contracts to push the cap hit into later years. I think next year Shaq and Mo town will be either the highest cap hit of their groups or right at the top. For Mo town its ALL tackles, and shaqs its inside LBs. Just add additional years and keep pushing the hit towards the future..........

Thats why a long-term is the only way. You *could tag him in order to prevent talks with other teams, but I forget the date...its the new year date, you must be under the cap limit by (guess) March 25th. Could re-send the tag before, but it would be silly to do so.

I said believe in quotes for a reason. How many offers did he have though?

    • Love the Freeling pick even more after watching his pressers. Dude is sharp and definitely seems to have the right mentality. I loved hearing how personal he took having a bad game with a torn labrum and instead of seeing that as the reason for his bad game and not changing anything, it motivated him to work even harder. Such a great pick, we finally got our all pro level LT for the next decade and now we can move Ickey to RT or guard with no hurt feelings due to his injury. Second favorite pick is probably Brazzell. He said he false started on his 40 and it cost him probably 0.04 seconds, so he’s more of a 4.33 guy rather than 4.37. Really Randy Moss lite. I didn’t know anything about him prior to drafting him and first highlight reel I saw of him I immediately thought he looked like Moss. Then I saw the measurables and was like yep. Then I see that he’s drawn that comparison by many scouts and analysts. If he can add consistency and play to the level of his highlights every play then we got an incredible value.
    • During his three years at UGA he only allowed 5 sacks. He is only 21 and is on an upward trajectory. He's a great athlete that was good basketball player in high-school.  His height (76% how is this only 76%???? these guys are giants now), hands (81%), span (99%), speed (96%), quickness (10 yd. 86%), and explosiveness (vert. 96%, broad 97%) are all outstanding.  When we took Freeling, Fano, Mauioga, Proctor, and Miller were all off the board so we could have drafted Iheanachor or Lomu instead or waited to the second or third round to take Bell, Tiernan or Barber or wait even longer.  A lot of these tackles (including the first two taken) project to right tackle or guard in the NFL and that's not what we needed now.  Freeling has some sloppiness to clean up in his run blocking, but he's young and getting better.  We can let him get experience behind Walker and Moton knowing if he has to replace one of the two this year, his pass blocking won't get Bryce killed. Icky's not coming back from that injury as a nfl starting left tackle and Moton is in the twilight of his career.  If Walker has a great year, we will have to pay him a lot and if he is medicore we would want to let him walk.  Getting a LT on a rookie contract is going to help a lot with the cap.
    • It was cool but they have done this at least in recent years unless I am imagining it
