IIRC you are one of the people who persistently cannot see that Lamar is an elite QB. Not a running back. You can try and gyrate any which way you want but the results, statistics and the tape are saying something completely different.

About the only shade you can throw at Lamar at the moment is that he is toting a pretty hefty "choker" tag when it comes to the playoffs.

Jimmy was right, I never called Lamar bad or hes some RB larping as a QB. My hill was he was driving WRs away. You cannot win a modern MVP without being elite.

Statistically, I'm pretty sure without looking that Trubisky's stats look more impressive from college...  but it was the eye test.  To me, when a play needed to be made, more often than not Marquise made it.  You could see his leadership and I trusted his decision-making when it mattered.  With Mitch, those aspects were always red flags for me and it was why I never believed in him.  The stats to me looked labored and manufactured - more a result of the system than a guy who is a processing prodigy.  When we needed a big throw or a smart play, it seems like he would always fold in those circumstances, so I just never believed the hype.  I always thought the stats were fairly empty...  his pro career seems to bear that out.

The difference is that Trubisky actually had NFL skills and Marquise had absolutely none. If you switched brains/hearts, that would be a good NFL player.

A great qb can compensate for some of that.  Tom Brady did for years.

But the team would have to be very very wise with the few assets and draft it did have.

Having a premiere QB also helps fill those holes even with fewer assets, as more players will take less to come play with an elite QB.  It's why I dont get all distraught over the idea of the trading picks for a guy like Lamar.  And it's why I've always argued, if you can, you have to figure out QB first, because it makes all those surrounding pieces so much easier to fix versus having the supporting cast in place and needing to find a franchise QB.  All the supporting cast can be A-1, but if you don't have a legit QB it's not going to matter (see: us since Cam's shoulder injury).

Yucs were truly a QB away, but they also didnt have to trade for Brady either. Plus while Lamar is superman and all, but he cannot do what Brady does. Lamar does loads of carrying the ravens tho....

Yeah, Lamar is an elite QB but no one in the NFL is the level of insane competitor that Brady was.

If you waste the picks, then its much better to use them for a proven QB. Just if you hit on picks, its the golden goose......great control player for cheap, its the best way to built a team.....just got to hit on them and thats the issue. You could look at recent panthers draft and would you trade - Horn, Brown, Ickey, TMJ(lols), Taylor, Tremble, and BSmith for lamar.....PLUS paying him 55+ sucking up cap space.....man its a tough sale for me, but I could be talked into it.....

Fwiw, when I mentioned Brady, I was mainly referring to his time with the Patriots.  Gronk was good, but generally speaking, their wide receiver/running back group over his last few years with the Pats didn't impress me that much.  I think Brady made some average guys look better than they were.

Although I do think the Patriots did a good job putting together a team that was better than the sum of its parts.

There isn't a right or wrong answer there. If you get your elite franchise QB, the fact that you rob 2-3 years of assets becomes less relevant because now you may have a decade or more of time to be a contender just with the addition of that elite guy. You just have to make sure that is the case. If not.......it's gonna be rough.

    • Was at the game and NYCFC honestly outplayed CLT the whole way.  Khalina and Zaha carried the team.  Zaha's wife on IG making it sound like he's gone come July. They're going to have to pay him or find a big time replacement because the team looks like pretty lost without him.
    • No one's saying LaMelo has no blame we're responding to you acting like he's the reason they lost. The scapegoating and blaming the teams woes on his personality is where it's like Cam Newton all over again. It was a failure on multiple fronts and primarily Lee's. Dude said ON AIR pregame that they had to protect the paint and if that was his gameplan going in he couldn't have botched it more. As the commentators said Ball's a rhythm guy and Orlando was preventing him for getting any kind of flow going. I'm a normie watching on TV and said they needed to bait them into fouling to combat that. They didn't even try until the 2nd half when it was too late. I think it's fair to expect the star to overcome whatever but LaMelo was not the problem in that game and he's not what is holding the team back. He's the only reason they're flirting with being a great team. I kinda put the center play on Lee too. Moose is great until he's up against a big who can body him. We've always known that and that's what Kalkbrenner is for. I don't know if it would have changed much but Kalkbrenner should have had more minutes than him.  And moving forward with the center position, I just think it's the time to trade Diabate while his stock's high and that's not an indictment of his game. He's like an evolved combination of Biyombo and PJ. He's a great rim protector and the strength issue is just what you're going to have to deal with if you want that. But Kalkbrenner is perfectly capable of protecting the rim and we gotta get away from the undersized centers or it'll always be a problem for us.
    • Honestly its why that Jalen Coker grab was a big deal.  I'd been warming up to the idea of a sadiq pick and was adamantly against a receiver...but this altered my train of thought.  I mean For instance, Cade Otton signed for 3 yr 30 mil contract...thats not dramatically different than the rookie payscale for #19 (4 year 20 mil with 5th year option), however you KNOW otton is decent...no clue if Sadiq will be anything.
