No he is not the best of them which is my point. You are expecting him not to do things that even top CBs do. He just had a solid game against NYG and us currently helping serve up a shut out. It’s hard for CBs because when they mess up on one play it sticks out to us fans. When Burns misses a wide open sack or when a LB misses a tackle or gap it doesn’t stand out as much. He is still young enough yo where mistakes are going to happen, but I wouldn’t cut him over it. Who do you want starting if he is cut? SOT? Taylor?

I'm usually with you, Jimmy, but not on this.  No, I don't expect him to be perfect and I know corner is one of the toughest positions to play and they require some of the shortest memories due to the nature of it...  but even all that considered, he just isn't good.  I laid out all of the examples.  Teams do go after him and if all you can ever remember is bad plays after almost two full years, that's kind of your sign...

And Taylor looked a hundred times better than him in limited opportunities last season, so yes, I would bench him for Taylor in a heartbeat.

I understand we can have different opinions. Taylor looked good early last year, but towards the end of the year teams were picking him apart. I trust Wilks on starting CJ from this roster. I hate they are playing him and Horn in a damn soft zone.

Respect.

And agree, Taylor did tail off, but I was still impressed with the overall body of work for a rookie.  I would just like to see more of him.

But I agree about Wilks' opinion and not understanding why we're playing soft with guys who have been touted for their man press skills.

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
