Pyotr Kochetkov?

I haven’t been able to watch many games this year. How has my boy Koochie looked? In typical Carolina goalie fashion, his GAA is good but his save percentage is not quite as great. Curious to know how you guys think he looks.

Koochie is still learning. Gets out of position a bit but is athletic enough to get back. Sees though traffic very well.   That alone makes him the best goalie on the team. 
 

Koochie is our future and rod knows it. For us to be great come playoff time his needs those reps and rod is giving it to him.

His save percentage sucks because the Canes are giving up very few shots.

Yes that’s been a trend with our goalies the past few years. Fewer shots but a higher percent of high danger shots leads to lower GAA but a little lower SV Pct.

This is a good explanation from the bit I’ve seen of him so far. He’s definitely still in a transitional phase. With more reps he’ll tighten up his play even more. I feel like the coaches aren’t asking too much of him right now. More of a slow walk.

Which makes sense that they were planning on him staying in Chicago until injuries. I’m sure he will get better as he continues to get used to the American ice/gameplay and tightens up on some of his problems.

He was never the goalie Kooch is and was rightly dumped. Totally different players and I was happy they didn't sign him long term. If you look at Kochetkov's numbers in the KHL/AHL they mirror or better Vasilevskiy of Tampa. 

Yeah, he can get out of place sometimes and he has a lot to learn but he's way better at this point in his career then Ned was, or ever will be.

In Goals Saved Above Expected per 60 (5+ games), a very legitimate measure of how well a goalie is playing taking into account the team defense in front of him, Pyotr is #2 behind only Ilya Sorokin (a Vezina favorite for best goalie in the league). I couldn't be more excited about this kid, his play is even better than his raw numbers which are solid as is. Such a stud. Small sample size so far but I think he'll keep it up and even get better as he gets more comfortable facing NHL shooters.

Basically, Pyotr and Sorokin are 1 & 2 in most of the important statistical measures.

And, no, it's not our system, as Freddie and Annti are laughably low in the same measures...

I’m looking at this while on a conference call so could be incorrectly interpreting, but seems like he is very good against tough shots (high danger) but not as great against easier shots (unblocked low and medium danger). 
 

Also, as a stats and analyst guy, this tool is really awesome.
