Hats off to wilks going 6-6 as interim head coach. I do wonder if he started sooner if we have a winning record. Funny how Eddie sealed the season with a game winning kick, and could have sealed a playoff birth if he did it in Atlanta too

Eddy grew from his failures after the first ATL game and hadn’t missed a kick since, including a high pressure kick yesterday to win the game. Can’t say the same about the other dudes on the team who continually fail at what they do.

I hope we don’t keep saying this. Tampa isn't going to sit Fournette, Evans, Vea and Brady in the 2nd quarter. I’m not even sure how many others they sat. Tampa even with Gabbert had a lead going into halftime. Tampa rested a lot of guys and certainly weren’t playing for a division title. We lost to the Bucs and that sealed our fate, so acting like losing that game didn’t have any impact on yesterday’s games is a bit disingenuous. Heck, even the Saints truly had nothing to play for and maybe don’t go for it on 4th down, etc.

We are comparing two different worlds of hypotheticals... I used "could" for a reason. Meaning chance. I did not say "would." I understand where you are coming from...but its not really worth either one of us to spend time debating.  Unless we are living in the block universe, and if that is the case.... then pull up a chair bc we will be here for awhile.

I think with wilks all year we either win the division or are competing for the last wild card spot. I’d give us two more wins (Cleveland and Arizona) to get to 9-8.

I could see that but then pretty much gurantee to get bounced in the first round because their strategy doesnt work against good teams.

Why? He had 1 catch for 2 yards before the Saints went into prevent mode on the last drive and left him wide open for his second catch. 17 catches and 28 catches in 2 years doesn’t make me giddy. 1 TD in 2 years?

In the 2021 draft, 4 WRs drafted later than him, a WR dumped by his drafting team, a WR who missed 16 games due to injury, and 3 RBs drafted later than him have more career receptions than Marshall. Heck, our rock handed backup RB and backup TE drafted that year have only 6 receptions less.

He played better than his rookie year but 28 receptions by your WR2? That’s awful. He was 152th in receptions according to ESPN before this week and his 2 receptions. That’s including RBs and TEs. Outside of the OL, who were healthy this year, Marshall was 2nd in offensive snap counts to DJ.

Also, having a big WR doesn’t give me warm fuzzies with 1 TD after 2 years.

KB (2 years) 136-1949-16TD

Funchess (2 years) 54-844-9TD

Marshall (2 years) 45-628-1TD

Not living up to Funchess, who was drafted around the same slot and was the 3rd receiving option behind KB/Ginn and Olsen isn’t good even if we don’t have Cam. Cam was never putting up 5000 yard passing seasons. We only had 300-500 less passing yards the past two years than we did in Cam’s MVP season (10-15% less).

I guess Marshall could break out at some time but it’s not good that he’s not even close to living up to two big WRs who had to contend with Olsen. Heck, take out Olsen and WRs may have more receiving yards in 2021-2022 than 2014-2016.

IMHO, we need a better WR to pair with DJ.

These are all great stats but they are missing one key piece to why TMJ hasnt had a chance to do more.... he was stuck behind Rhule's negligance of developing young players and getting them on the field.

All of TMJ's rookie year we were forcing him to play slot... he isn't a slot reciver. Yes, he played slot many times at LSU but that is far different at the NFL level. TMJ's real opportunities to play didnt happen until after Robbie Anderson left. I am not going to hold that aginst this guy, when he made NFL capable catches over NFL starting corners week to week during our 4-2 span.

I dont understand why you are using the language Saints went into prevent mode on the last drive and left him wide open for his second catch.

We were in max protect on that play and the saints brought a disguised blitz. They had a single safety high (honey badger) that shaded DJ Moore's side and TMJ beat his man who had outside leverage (Lattimore) on his in route.

Loose statements like that make it hard to have a conversation with you, bc im not sure how much you are speaking from knowledge (which normally you do) and how much you are making up... like the above example. I enjoy our debates but this one doesn't have much foundation outside speculation and loose projections.

It makes debates difficult on here bc it introduces doubt in statements of certainty.

Not the fault of Wilks. This team isn’t his and he did a damn good job keeping it together.  He’s a good man and he will land on his feet and kick ass no matter where he ends up.  I for  one hope it’s In Carolina and HC.  He has earned it.

I’ve seen it posted multiple times as if Eddy’s the reason why we didn’t make it with no context around Tampa losing. That’s why I responded. We didn’t make the playoffs because we lost to Tampa, simple as that. This week is irrelevant because Tampa locked the division up last week.

Then my statement as precise as i attempted to position. I was leaning into I wonder if Wilks could have won more if he had started the season as HC. That's as far as I wanted to go down the path of "What if"

    • I would say that seems like an odd comment from Morgan, but at the same time it's almost impossible to find a college QB declaring for the draft to have less physical ability than BY so you can assume almost anyone you bring in would be your go to QB sneak/designed run guy.
    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
