It is confirmed; straight from the horse's mouth.  Sounds like we will have multiple looks in our sub packages, so some of the fun hybrid stuff. But our base defense is confirmed to be a 3-4.  Likely 2 high shell Fangio concepts with a bit more blitzing that seemed to be Evero's MO in Denver.

This confirms a few obvious needs:

(1) 3-4 DE

(1) EDGE (could work with what we have but another wouldn't hurt)

(1) ILB

(1) Outfielder/S

Luvu could play a few roles depending on the looks.

Chinn becomes a question mark--S or LB? I'd definitely lean towards ILB, w/a hybrid type role in our sub packages. 

Exciting stuff.

 

 

Correct me if you think I'm wrong on any needs/debate player roles/have at it.

So usually 3-4 ILBs are bigger guys, think Ray Lewis. Chinn would be really small for that role, but we have numerous guys that fit the mold of OLB: Burns, Haynes, the 7th rd rookie from last year that’s really fast, his name escapes me atm. Shaq could work at MLB if he put on some weight, he has the frame for it I think, but his days here are numbered.  I think a ~245 lbs MLB could be targeted in the mid rounds of the draft or sign someone in FA. Chinn could stay a SS and just play mostly run support since our MLBs could be a little on the smaller side for now. I think Brown and YGM will be put DEs for now with both eyes open looking for YGM’s replacement.  We have a couple guys that can fill the NT role. I don’t think we’re far from having a complete 3-4 roster, maybe just a MLB and a second DE. 
 

Chinn can probably move up and play WLB in our 4-3 packages, with Burns moving back to DE and the other OLB going to the bench with a DB replacing him in the backfield.

DL wise, Karl Brooks out of Bowling Green is a cool prospect.  Mazi Smith as mentioned stands out in R2-3.  

I really like the EDGE class in R2-4 like that Felix Anudike-Uzo kid, Keion White.  If Nolan Smith (UGA) fell to R2 at our second spot, that would be an attractive get.  

Derrick Hall out of Auburn is another interesting guy to throw in.  

I actually think this really opens things up prospect wise.

Yeah Chinn is just hard to place if we're going to have two safeties playing back.  They seem completely capable of figuring it out, but he becomes somewhat of an outlier if we're strictly looking at Evero's defenses historicaly.

      Yep. I was hoping for and calling for a day three guy. But I didn’t research the position to say if we should or should‘t have jumped at a particular guy at a particular spot.    And everything I read said it was a poor draft for RBs depth wise. I guess when Seattle takes a backup RB in the 1st, that kind of backs that up.    I definitely think we should keep 4 running backs and if King can play well enough then keep him too.    I believe I heard Canales say we are a running team (talking about drafting a WR he will be needing to block as well as catch). Well if we are gonna be a running team by identity we don’t need to stock the WR room to overflowing. If one room has to sacrifice, it should not be the RB room given our circumstances.

      If there's a pattern I'm definitely picking up from Dan and company is a philosophy of making trades where we try not to sacrifice the number of draft picks we have by day's end. In other words, we're not giving up three picks for one, or giving up a future pick to make a pick today. And even if we give up something at the start, we make trades later to make up for that initial loss. Here's how it stacked up for 2026: How we started: 19, 51, 83, 119, 158, 159, 200 How we ended: 19, 49, 83, 129, 144, 151, 227 (no future picks sacrificed) Ultimately, we moved up two spots in the second to ensure we got someone we coveted, gave up a few spots for our fourth round pick, but then had better picks in the 5th (and got really good value out of them), and had a worse 7th rounder which isn't that big of a loss anyways.  At this point, we can question who they draft, but they're pretty good maneuvering across the draft board.

      I just saw the funniest thing...or very disappointing, depending how you handle misery. A guy on YouTube did a 2027 'way too early' mock draft.  If I told you the simulator has the Panthers selecting in the top 10 , what would you say?  If I told you it was pick #8 and only two QBs were taken in the top 7, what would you say?  If I told you this dude had us taking a defensive player, what would you say?
