That would feel more accurate if the fact that his quarterback coach from 2013-2017 wasn't the same guy that developed Josh Allen and is now his offensive coordinator.

who was Cam's QB coach for the first two years and how many years experience as a QB coach did Dorsey have before becoming Cam's?

It’s that all it would have taken? Next year’s first and 25’s 2nd?

Word was the asking price for #3 wasn't significantly different than the asking price for #1.

Given that, why settle for #3?

Daboll developed Allen and is why Jones looked decent this year in NYG. I’d argue Allen regressed when Daboll left.

As I recall, the only experience Dorsey had prior to becoming Newton's quarterback coach was working as one of our scouts.

Would he have been as good as he is now if he'd been allowed to really coach? Don't know, but I do know Rivera overall just wasn't good for Newton.

To be honest, at this point I think Dorsey's a little overrated as a head coaching prospect, partially because he's using Allen in much the same way Rivera used Newton. It won't surprise me if that ends up shortening his career.

Yeah, I see your point. And actually Daboll may be more responsible for Allen's development anyway. Norv at least pushed Cam to play differently, and he responded. That should have happened much earlier in his career.

Word back then was Rivera and Hurney didn't want any "hard coaching" on Newton. They were afraid of hurting his feelings.

Dorsey basically wound up being a "buddy", and there were a load of indications that Newton didn't really respect him or see him as a valid coach.

Buffalo actually let him coach however he felt he needed to.

they didn't really surround him with good experienced coaches up until Turner.

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
