Which Top QB better fits the new OC play calling style..

I didn't say that he absolutely cannot play under center, I said "if" he can't. He has never done it before. There are adjustments Bryce Young needs to make to play in the pros and there really aren't for Stroud. Is it possible he makes the proper adjustments? Absolutely. Is it still a risk? Absolutely. Stroud is the safest quarterback in the draft but also has tons of potential. If we want to take risks for potentially greater reward, why not just go with Richardson?

I was where you were a few weeks ago, until I went and watched the games.

Young just has much better tape.  Some of it is amazing.

PFF, Draft Buzz, Sports News, ESPN,Walter Football, CBS Sports, NFL.com, and SI.com all have Bryce Young their choice for best QB.  Not mock draft.  Best QB.   Its really odd, scouts and analysts have Young as the best QB but have him #2 in their mock.

Combine that with the actual analysis that bigger QB's get injured MORE (which jives with our Corral and Cam experience), and I understand why the Panthers want the guy.

We may be wrong, and Young isn't the pick, or he is and doesn't pan out.  But I doubt it.

Yeah you're absolutely correct. But 20% out of shotgun is still a few hundred plays a season and if he can't play under center then there will be problems. In my opinion, Young will be limited to West Coast offense his entire career no matter how the NFL evolves while Stroud has the skillset to play in almost any scheme. I see Young as an unnecessary risk with only marginally better upside than Stroud, personally.

I get where you’re coming from, I look at QBs differently from other prospects - it’s such a cerebral position. You grab the best overall football player that’s a proven commodity. The risk is chasing upside there.

Both are good, but Bryce did more with less. Stroud is going to have 3 of his linemen drafted in the first 2/3 rounds. Had two of his receivers go first round last year, one will be a first rounder this year and one will be a top 5 pick next year. Bryce’s best receiver was his running back this year and a Bama linemen will be lucky to get drafted in the 4th round.

Bryce did more with less.  Interesting.   Alabama has always been known as having difficulty getting recruits there.

I guess we'll see when the draft comes round where Bama and OSU offensive players land.   Last year it was pretty even.

Both are recruiting powerhouses, each have their own up/down years. This is one instance where OSU had better years than Bama.

Agreed. The lack of snaps under center, the time to throw, and the drop back depth really turn me off. Our offensive line is built for the run game and I’d like to stay that way, but I’m not sure how possible that is with Young. I understand he was great at throwing over the middle in college, but could it have been due to variables that are harder to replicate in the NFL (time to throw, drop back depth, etc.)?

I don’t really like the dink and dunk offenses and I feel like that’s what we’ll be limited to with Bryce. For those who are okay with that kind of offense, I can see why Bryce would be the guy.

I think the jumping around in the pocket and rolling out to hit his guys 20 yards down the field isn't going to translate. It's going to be a lot of throwing slants out of shotgun dink and dunk crap. He can't throw from the pocket like CJ can, so if/when teams contain him, they won't fear the deep ball, they'll just rush 4 or 5 and cover the short and intermediate stuff. Potential to be stressful yet boring at the same time

I bet you can't find any proof of this being accurate can you.

A team I played in High School dominated for decades because they feed their kids steroid meat. They were always bigger/faster than the competition. Small school but they stay producing NFL talent.

It's the meat!

    • I have different  opinion on what is a big time throw. Some of those CJ throws the receiver is running wide open, one of them he completely under throws.
    • agreed, which is why if Bryce gets his poo together the division is for the taking. Even with Bryce sucking we were in every NFC South game last year   yep, a tortured longtime Hornets and Panthers fan
