So it was my impression that steady Freddie played better than Raanta on the road. I researched it and that’s not the case stat wise which was a bit of a surprise to me. (Yes I know game 2 is a home game so I give the stats for home and away).

Goalie records 2022-2023

Note the stats below don’t consider quality of teams played. Stats source: statmuse.com

On the road records

Andersen-10-5-0, 2.73 GAA, .898 SV%avg

Raanta- 8-3-2, 2.37 GAA, .905 SV%avg

At home records

Andersen- 11-6-1, 2.27 GAA, .908 SV%avg

Raanta-11-0-1, 2.06 GAA, .916 SV%avg

if we're going to make a long run, we'll need to play both and or Pyotr. IMO the road is where you play Freddie because it takes pressure off and can build him confidence.  The main point there is right now you just can't not play Raanta at home because he's currently untouchable at PNC

I hope we see Raanta in the lineup tonight, he earned it. I don’t see us playing Raanta throughout and Im good with Freddie in the first away game. But if Raanta does well tonight and Freddie gives up 4 goals in the first away game then sit him and play him sparingly when Raanta needs a break. I don’t think Pyotr is playoff ready he’s either played outstanding or given up a ton of goals.

true on Pyotr but Cam Ward was pretty meh/needs more AHL time his rookie year and then we know what happened when Gerber got sick in the first round..

    • To me, this seems like they feel they aren't going to be competitive. I can't help but go back to Bryce. Good guy, but he doesn't inspire people to give it their all. He isn't a "leader" that people look to. There is no Smith, Delhomme, Kuechly, Cam, etc. coming in that door.  It has to be Bryce, but biologically speaking, how often is the shortest man in the room going to command the kind of respect that will drive people? It just isn't. That isn't how we are wired. That isn't how any living animal on Earth today is wired.  I just follow the science guys.
    • Vick's issue with Reid was that he couldn't take a hit, and he wouldn't go down. Otherwise he was pretty good much of the time.  Mahomes has a system that works. Mahomes doesn't become Mahomes elsewhere because not everyone can extract 125% of the ability of a specific player like Reid can. Kevin O'Connell is beginning to look like he has that ability as well but I'll need to see how he does with his Redshirt Freshman.  I also wonder how much of their playoff issue last year was related to the offense as a whole and not just Darnold. Fans don't really dive into the "why" things happen, they just see the what and complain about it.
