What could a trade down look like?

Did I read somewhere Joe P hinted that AR was 2 on our board or am I insane?

He threw it out as kind of a "what if" thing. He actually seems to be kind of regretting it now (I think both Richardson fans and Stroud fans are pestering him about it) 😄

When asked, he said he still believes the pick would be either Young or Stroud... most likely Young.

That would take CJ Stroud and Bryce Young out of reach and no possible franchise QB for us if that had taken place.

If the rumors that they love Richardson are true, the status of Young and Stroud makes no difference.

Don't get me wrong, I think Richardson is a huge gamble with a potential huge payoff and he is not my choice.  I sure the hell would not draft him at #1, though, so if they are thinking that way........

There could be other "influences" that pump the price of #1 up....like Houston thinking Indy is going to make us an offer we can't refuse and take the guy they want.

The trade value chart is like any other set of numbers:  it is a pretty accurate guide over the long haul, but the caveat "all other things being equal" needs to be added to the end.  For the #1 pick or even a top 3-5, all other things are rarely equal.

That's it! Make Indy give up a poo ton, pick Will Anderson Jr., and roll with Corral and Dalton. #Fitmagic! #sarcasm

Panthers.

Sorry about the vagueness, I am in a Zoom meeting that I don't care about, but I have to listen enough to make sure nobody says anything incredibly stupid.  Merely stupid is normal, but incredibly stupid I have to speak up on.

Funny you should mention...

Caplan points out that if Richardson slides out of the top ten and the Texans don't take a quarterback second overall, they could conceivably pick him up at #12.

Wouldn't that be interesting 🤔

I believe he said it would be a trade back scenario for Richardson, and I'm assuming he meant further back than 2. Somehow people interpreted that as him jumping Stroud in QB order

Try applying that principle to this forum 😐

Nah, he actually meant #2.

It was pure speculation, and per his own admission unlikely, but that's what he said.

Reading between the lines of some of his more recent stuff, I think he's regretting that he ever said it 😄

Personally, that is my position, too.  It doesn't hurt to churn the waters to see if somebody puts something on the table that is really absurd, but the odds of that happening are pretty slim.

I don't think it happens.

But with that said, if we picked the right guy and also got extra picks back, hell yeah 😃

I really think this will happen. I think Bryce and Stroud will will top 5, maybe Richardson, and then Levis and Hooker in the mid first round.

    • Right and I think we can have a conversation about that. But even with the scheme he should still be able to muster more than 1.5 sacks right? I mean DJ Johnson played in Evero's scheme too but that didn't stop us from calling him a bust. Scourton didn't seem to have trouble flashing. There can be different things true at one time.
    • I assume you are quoting my still. If so, I don't know what your argument is since mine was simply showing a play where Bryce scored a TD against the Rams in the playoffs where another poster used a similar still of Herbert's line to defend his poor performance last night. Like I said, Herbert is a better QB but Bryce wins the game last night for the Chargers. It simply is something he does better than Herbert and would play to his strengths. Someone even said earlier Chargers only win 1 or 2 games this year if Bryce was their QB which is so absurdly laughable it wasn't even worth trying to address. I mean this thread is literally called "Bryce Young is the worst QB in Panther's History" so I understand there is no objective arguments to be had here but I found that amusing.
    • I think his knee would make a good reason to switch to guard IF he returns.  Half don't.  Half of those don't last too long.  The strain on a knee (320lb man) vs speed rushers is more substantial.  So I would keep him if I could on a small contract (he will make $17.5 in 2026 fully guaranteed) and think of him as a possible guard for the post Lewis/Hunt era.  Knee injuries in big men are not invitations to invest in them.
