I mean the calm demeanor and soft spokeness just makes too much sense now. Stuff like this is what makes me hate Alabama and nick saban even more. Alabama not known for putting it out great qbs no more than ohio state,  all this propganda to push this kid so that program and saban can shake that label. I could careless about a college program reputation, i care about the panthers. But this ownership and FO fell for it.

It isn’t Saban’s fault that our ownership and management are completely incompetent.

I guess the interesting thing to me is all media says this is heavily driven by Tepper, but everything coming from the front office and coaches says otherwise. I guess the truth doesn't matter, as long as he succeeds.

If true, then why did Tepper hired Rhule who has a score of 14 with a mental imbalance of a child. Unless he used that to justify the QB pick as a lesson learned.

Explains why he was benched over a sore ankle. He was going to implode and see nothing but ghosts if we decided to keep him out there at the rate things were going. Smart play by the staff, but a shitty situation for all of us knowing this is our future "guy".

Yeah but you have to protect players form themselves as well. Cam Newton should have been poo down many times to heal but because he is big and RR is shitty and desperate, he let him play and cut five good years off of Cam’s career. If Bruce needs to take a step back before taking steps forward I am fine with that.

Oof

Isn't this your guy though?

The awkward irony is that if we're actually playing armchair GM here, then we wouldn't have even drafted CJ Stroud if you were making the decisions.  We'd have Justin Fields, whom we'd have hitched our wagon to, still convinced that he's our franchise QB.  It seems like many of the same people making every excuse in the book for Fields in his 3rd season with a 5-28 record as a starter, are the ones who have abandoned Bryce after 2 games.  And you are certainly the poster boy for it, which I would consider one of the most egregious double standards I've seen in my dozen humble years browsing this forum.

BTW I'm also on record as wanting to draft Stroud this year.  The difference is that I'm not gleefully circle-jerking about it right now, because I'd rather my football team do well than crave vindication about something.  Or maybe all this overcompensation about Stroud is your way of trying to sweep your Fields love under the rug and distance yourself from that association.  But Pepperidge Farm remembers...

Its not vindication per se, just pointing another totally inept move the panthers made or didnt make.

Playing on a bad ankle in a year we aren’t a threat is a terrible risk. It’s a good way to develop bad habits or get a much more serious injury. I agree 100% about protecting players from themselves.

I'm not going to knock anyone for anything related to mental health. That's probably the least of my worries with Young. At least I hope.

There was an odd amount of negative stuff thrown at CJ Stroud over petty things though which surprised me some people who were pro Young weren't bothered by it because it was similar to some of the things said about Cam.

We were far from the only team to have Young over Stroud including the team that drafted Stroud. Again both QBs have a long way to go to decide which was the better pick. Victory laps after week 3 are foolish. Hell in Rhule’s first quarter of a season we thought he was the next great coach and were talking about playoffs.

point taken about the ankle, but how the fug does this team assess after 2 games we arent a threat?  Isnt that a bit concerning as well?  Basically giving up after 2 losses.

you keep saying this but have absolutely no idea what other teams draft boards look like.  It was also reported that Young was completely off of some due to his size, so we just dont know how it would have played out

It was leaked that Houston wanted him.  We now have Houston players saying they are glad they won that meaningless game and didn't get the first pick because that's how they got Stroud.

Before the seasons started we stated it was going to start of rough but hopefully by the end of the year look a lot better.  Reich has said multiple times that this year is about developing Young.  Even if we wanted to compete having Young play through an ankle injury isn't smart.  Look at the issues Burrow is having because they played him through a calf injury.

    • I do believe that Evero gets canned before the end of the season and Capers takes over the D. I think the stage is set for Evero to fall on the sword for a 4-7 win season.  Not saying it would be a set up but I do think if that transpires, the seat under DC might start getting pretty warm, rightly or wrongly. That's my read on Tepper. I am not at all excited nor am I dreading anything. I just have extremely low expectations so I am just waiting to see what this revision of the roster looks like.  I FEEL like we are better on paper than last season's team but I wouldn't be remotely shocked if we were as bad or worse. Again, I do think this is the 2nd worst roster in franchise history overall. What will really make me happy is for some of the big questions to finally be answered(Bryce, Ikey, Horn, etc). I would like to see a real expansion of our core player pool(basically just D. Brown currently). I want to see a couple of hits in free agency and a couple in the draft. If we accomplish those things, I have faith that we are at least moving in the right direction after many, many years doing the opposite.
    • Considering our depth. Certainly kick the tires.
    • I am not so sure about that. I don't know that he is so soley offensively focused as winning focused. But, not really in a productive way. I get the impression he wants to be like Robert Kraft and take credit for "taking a risk on Bill Belichick" and being successful.  His track record indicates that in the NFL and in his business life.
