I love Mayer's game!  In three years at Notre Dame he never once turned the ball over, either, despite 180 receptions.

Im glad your still here @Buckeye Homer, sorry it didn't work out for CJ, I wanted him or bryce so I'm content. I think CJ is going to a good spot though, great coach.

I really hope we don't make the Cam mistake again. "Oh, this guy is so good he doesn't need any help so we can spend all our resources on defense now!"

I mean we signed two WRs a TE and a RB. The reality is we have bigger needs on defense right now. We are changing our scheme and could use CB, LBs and a 3-4 DE.

On offense, OG is the biggest need now and it’s not really a huge one. We don’t have a star WR but there isn’t one in the draft and we have a solid group heading into the season. TE is possible but I think defense is where we would be better off going in general

We have bandaids, I'm not sure we have any long-term solutions. Thielen is 32 and is on the decline. Chark is talented but is usually injured. TMJ will hopefully develop. On paper, this is definitely a bottom 10 NFL WR corps. Hurst is a former 1st round bust who is knocking on the door of 30. Three teams in five years basically putting up good backup caliber stats. I honestly think we significantly overpaid him.

Fug that mentality.

We need to grow Bryce with the best  weapons we can get him.  We got an assemble of guys who aren’t likely to be long term fixtures and/or just solid.

It’s an offensive league.  Burrow, Mahomes, etc grew with the best 1-2 weapons arguably in the NFL.   Weapons matter.  And look at a Trevor or Tua last year.  Change the weapons and it changes the QB.  And they still not giving Trevor what he needs to really grow and go.

but yeah, I’ve felt they would go D. They should snag a speedster WR or equip us to go heavy 2 TE.

Look, I agree that these aren’t the weapons to serve BY throughout his Panthers career, but I think the signings show intent. This is a significantly better WR group than Cam ever had while he was here to be honest.

The problem with just being determined to get him weapons is the value left in this draft. There’s genuine day 1 starters on the defensive side of the ball where we need help. You have very few players on the offensive side of value other than OG. Michael Mayer probably is value now, but the WR class in the draft is just pretty weak. At this point you are looking at Downs, Mingo and Hyatt and they are probably all more 3rd round level talents in your average draft class.

In short, I think the bandaid is fine this year. Of course we need to get BY weapons but I would rather get a 1st round talent on defense at 39 than a 3rd round talent on offense. I think we can make due this year with what we have.

Though to be honest, I would REALLY love Torrence or Avila. My ideal pick would be one of those guys. I’m all for just going ahead and making this offensive line the best we have ever had.

Signficantly better than anything Cam had? Cam's rookie receiving option were better than what we have now.

89, Olsen, Shockey, Lafell, LEGATRON!!!!!, 2 pro bowl RBs?

There is a reason 89 broke the rookie passing record.  He had basically an ideal group around him.

    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
