The city would be much better off to invest that money in infrastructure, mental health help, the homeless, education, or lots of other things than giving it to Tepper, especially just for a renovation. If he threatens to move the team over it, tell him buy.

What an ignorant post

No he won’t. This isn’t Oakland. The NFL won’t let a top 10 population state not have a team.

Given Tepper blew his reputation in SC, he doesn’t have any options unless Raleigh wants to give him money.

How does that benefit me as a fan?

You don’t matter. How does giving 600 million of Meck co and Charlotte city tax dollars to a multi-billionair benefit tax payers?

And? He can afford to renovate the stadium or even build a new one himself and it wouldn't really hurt his worth. Raising taxes for this or shifting money away from other programs hurts the citizens of the city.

Glad you don’t care about the team

Have you seen the cost of materials and labor in the construction industry lately?! A new stadium like Jerry World would cost over $3B today.  I would have to see the details of this "renovation" being proposed before I have an educated opinion on this venture.

For reference, the recently announced new Titans stadium is 2.1B.  A renovation cost this high must include something extravagant.

It also includes new practice facilities like what was scrapped in Rock hill.

However I did want to clear up misconceptions like this one. City/County Governments have entertainment and tourism budgets earmarked specifically for projects like these. They CANNOT use that money for things such as schools or other infrastructures. It is a completely different pool of resources and does not impact in any way the other budgets

Spot on.  I work in local govt mgmt - tourism dollars are governed by state law.  Occupancy tax revenues (likely in the hundreds of millions in Charlotte) come from taxes on hotel stays.  That money can only be spent on tourist and entertainment related expenses that put “heads in beds.”

The NFL pulled in just over 18 BILLION last year in revenue. You would have to think that taking a percentage of that money and setting it aside for "Infrastructure" would be a prudent course of action.

Let's say they take 5% off the top. That's about $900,000,000 per year they could set aside. Surely they would be able to collect enough money to provide "loans" to NFL teams who would pay them back, meanwhile writing off a good chunk of that on their taxes. Kinda seems like a win-win just waiting to be exploited.

And then there's depreciation.

What am I missing?

    • You found out what I said months ago. Its sort of simple, if Panthers/you want a edge....*Panthers need a starting edge that gets hurries/sacs/press/etc* You almost have to use the 1st on edge. Just the way it is, of course some .01% Panthers get lucky and a 4th rounder shocks the world and becomes a day one starter.    I hate double talk, I also feel the Panthers need a top backup ala Addison or Al Wallace. Sooooo I do feel the need to add one in mid rounds if possible. I mean Pat Jones is on the MAYBE cut list, Panthers need space, he had a back injury and had little impact on field. So....... It goes back to adding talent, Panthers need talent, young talent.  OT- In my finding Im able to land a "stud" in round 2 more than 50% of the current rating. Even in the 3-5 rounds, (duke lad) Im able to get a OT within the top ava. I normally draft two OTs with one must play LT at some point. So I feel the draft is weak, but one of the strong point and it helps panthers is the OT spot. A few of those OT in mid, some will be starters this year.    I posted this else where, but here is the best outcome for the Panthers given the mock draft finding- 1st- Edge 2nd- LT/OT 3rd- ILB 4th- BPA/safety/center/WR/OT/etc 5th- OT/edge/C/DL/TE 5th- """" 6th- QB/Punter/safety/NB/OL The draft feels weak at 80% of the spots and teams Im sure are on this thought too. This past draft feels much better and deeper against the pool There is no Mike green or Nic scro in the late 2nd. There is no Evans sitting there in late 5th. There is not even a Prince level edge in the 3rd by my finding. I feel Panthers for sure new to draft 2 OTs and I high believe drafting 2 edges, one must be a 1st tho. Then the remaining 3 picks one late on QB, one on ILB, and the last one BPA. Honestly the FA looks bad too, the huge problem is the amount of needed for Panthers and there's not enough cap space or draft picks to fill even half the issue this season. Its goes back to just add the best talented players possible, *so long they do not play OG, strong safety, Dbrowns spot, and Tmacs spot. Add talent everywhere else, cause its lacking.......Even CB with horn struggling and Mike Jack on a one year deal, Thor coming off injury. There room for a mid or even 2nd rounder being(ewwww) use at CB. I prefer what I posted above. Happy drafting 45!!
    • Yes.  We actually had a coach we paid millions to who burned a 6th for a long snapper strictly for the lulz.
    • A complete and total cancer to the locker room
