Congrats.

Been an independent contractor for 20 years now, my one piece of advice if you haven't ever been on this side of the market.

Pay your quarterly taxes.  Some will say take 35% and set that aside for taxes and other clever confiscation measures that are in place....but after this many years, I'd say that's bad advice, and to just pay your quarterlies.

Also budget, and learn to get really good at it.  When you have no idea how much money you are going to make month in and month out, you need to be very careful and plan LONG TERM.  I think in years now, not weeks like most people think about when looking at pay.

Great advice.  As I was getting this started I spoke with an accountant.  He suggested I plan on 30% for taxes.  I have a separate account just for that.  Tax money from anything I get goes in there..nothing else. I will pay the quarterly tax bill from that.   I know that I will be making more money during the fall with  Medicare enrollments but definitely know that will have to carry me through other parts of the year.

So excellent advice.  Thanks for taking the time and interest.

Just getting started but in the last 2 days have enrolled 3 people in a healthcare plan thru the ACA (affordable care act).  They were able to get health insurance that a few years ago they could not have gotten.

There are people in this business who "sell' and there are people who help. I am very happy to be in the latter  group.

    • You would hope so. I’m confused why the sports world seems split on Bryce when he’s obviously not working out.
    • So let’s do the reverse? Make everyone agree everything he does is a disaster? I also think the whole “gaslighting” is on the eye of the beholder. It went from he can’t avoid one single sack countered with he actually did that well Sunday (with data backing it) to a little breakdown of why he is so bad. People are going to have different opinions. I’m also not going to pretend this wasn’t happening Day one with this little QB.
    • All this great stuff he has done, how often does he do it?  I have it at three or four games out of 14 where he was very good and then you get a drive here or a series there where there are some good things. Here is the gaslight part: everyone has put him on a curve with his first year the baseline, neglecting to understand how bad he was then. Even if he comes back twice as good, where does that really leave him? 25th ranked or thereabouts.     He had so far to go, and still does, it is a Major ‘settle’ to accept his play as worthy of giving him our future.  You want to settle when the Bucs have Mayfield, and the Saints have overtaken us at QB? We will be third in the division at QB. That is good enough for y’all?
