What has Scott Fitterer done right?

I could write a long list of Fitterer’s failures as Panthers GM. What has he done right? I am really having trouble figuring it out.

Picking Icky? Is that the best thing he’s done? Zavala if he pans out as a legit starter? Maybe Chuba Hubbard? Wait never mind it was who Matt Rhule’s WIFE who picked him.

He's got a few decent draft picks. Icky most would agree was a no brainer kind of pick though. We had an immense need at LT and it was one of three options. Either way you're rolling the dice. Horn would be his shining achievement but the kid can't and possibly won't ever stay healthy. His initial signings on the OL were instant turds ie Elflein and Erving. His trades are ehhhhh Gilmore ended up being a needless GM mode on Madden kind of move. The 3rd we sent to the Jaguars for Henderson is looking like a steal for them at the moment. The trade for Shenault is likely another pointless one if he can't stay healthy which was his issue with his last team. There's just a lot of eh or meh or outright bad mixed in with his overall body of work as GM. When you consider the fact he's being kept upright on the defense by two Hurney picks in Brown and Burns you have to ask yourself what are our standards if the guy we agree was absolute poo as a GM is the only reason our roster hasn't fully bottomed out in Fitterer's 3rd season as GM.

Just now, LinvilleGorge said:

I'm far from sold. I've watched folks staunchly defend him and Gettlemnan both simply because they aren't Marty Hurney but at some point we have to move on from simply getting away from Hurney and try to get an actual competent GM.

Hurney could at least identify a star player which I’ve yet to see Fitterer figure out.

The problem with that is Tepper is still in charge of making that decision on the next GM.

Everything he touches turns to shiittt!

    • They've gone way overboard with the masking of plays by only filming the ball in air.  Nobody is analyzing camp highlights.
    • Canales up first. Guys got their legs back yesterday and started a little slow when they came out Bryce challenged them in the huddle and they responded "Dominant practice for the defense today." Praised turnovers, "beautiful hits," and being physical Praised Moehrig, Ransom, Incoom, and Jones II Confirmed playing starters. Predominantly a young team and can't pass up an opportunity. Emphasized game day routines such as nutrition, body readiness, etc. Plus it's a bunch of new guys on the defense. Bryce will start. Will play them the first two, but starters might sit for the third game depending on how practice goes that week. Nic Scourton has a mild hamstring that happened in special teams. DJ Johnson had an issue with his hip flare up and is getting checked out this afternoon. Experimenting with approach to preseason games. In Seattle they played their starters in all but the last preseason game and what Pete Carroll was looking for in terms of mental readiness to play football. Thomas Incoom has been getting a lot of work with AC Carter adding to his toolbelt. Getting better as a rusher and being physical in the run game. Looking for a consistency in response. 1pt for a win, 3pts for a TD. Defense doesn't like that, but in games if they give up one go ball the score can swing. They challenged the pass game and the run game today. Guys are getting together before, between, and after team drills to challenge each other Job of the coaching staff to set the foundation for our schemes, philosophy, and expectations of what it's like to play Panthers football. Powerful when players take that and the locker room owns it. That's when it becomes our team, their team. At the end of the day, the men on the field have to rebound from a bad play, celebrate the good plays, and keep each other in tune for a whole game. Robert Hunt is amazing. Size, talent, quickness, flexibility. Really intelligent guy that there will say himself there are technique things he needs to work on. Regardless of where players are at, there's a constant learning curve and loves that Big Rob is challenging himself with the position coach. Thinks the digital down and distance can be really valuable. Getting the information quickly will help with the flow of the game. Thought TMac looked great but there were some near misses that he'll have to get in the room and communicate with Bryce on while reviewing film. James Mitchell keeps doing right and his trust factor is increasing with the QBs. If you're right and the coverage says the ball goes there, it'll come. Had some issues at the start of camp but is trending up. Newton or Person: "It looked like today was beyond thud but short of live. What do you call that?" Canales: "No, that's thud. In my mind, that's what thud should look like. The challenge for our defensive guys is can you put your body in a position where we know that would've been a tackle." Whizzing by, tagging with two hands, etc doesn't show you whether you would've made a tackle. That's not real football. Let's the play extend because guys have to be ready to chase sometime where the ball squirts out from a pit. Can't train to say "Ah, it was a tackle" and relax but instead play with intensity through the whistle. Lathan Ransom is bringing the physical style of play that they saw on film. Has been really into the details and someone that they can count on. Has really given himself a chance to start at the other safety position. Excited for the extra energy from a game-like environment that they'll get from FanFest. Used to have four preseason games and now FanFest feels like that first one. Will give ST full speed reps to evaluate. Making plays and feeding off of the fans. Window closed quickly on the INT to finish practice. CSW baited Bryce with some movement and made a great play. Saw it from Bryce's perspective with TMac coming open. Has played all over the secondary that they can count on to speak loudly and be on the same page with his teammates.
