Has Young shown flashes of being a #1 pick?

Bryce has shown flashes, yes. People here just refuse to see it.

The Huddle loves to be miserable.

Seriously man.  Bryce hasn't been great, but its not like hes totally shitting the bed either.  The o-line, the coaching/playcalling and the running game have not been doing anybody any favors either.  People are acting like hes completing 45% of his passes and throwing 4 picks a game.  Don't get me wrong, im miserable with the teams performance thus far, but I am not THAT down on Bryce to say he wouldn't even be a 7th round pick.  Thats absurd lmao.

I think the question at this point. Is Bryce really this bad? If he was on another team would he still be this bad? If the answer is yes then did his people play him up when in reality he was probably a low rounder? If no what percentages of blame lays where?

I think this is a good question to ask.

I don't think he is that bad and if he was on another team, he would be playing much better. Even if you want to mention Andy Dalton, 8 false starts and the biggest play of the game was a 47 yard pass to Chark on a busted play with a starting running back averaging 2.9 yards per carry for the season.

Of the 3 starting rookie QBs it actually would be Anthony Richardson that may still look remotely decent here because his ability to run adds an extra element that defenses would have to account for. He could overcome a porous OL and break out of would be sacks.

Yes and there haven’t been flashes either. Making one or two off schedule throws in 3 full starts isn’t a “flash.” There’s yet to be even a single drive where it felt like he was taking advantage of a defense that was actively trying to stop him. I don’t count the drive against the saints prevent defense. What specifically have you seen?

Because defenses are cheating against us right now.  Our scheme and playcalling are so Mickey Mouse that every DC in the league knows how to beat us.  Blitz the poo out of Young (because our o-line is ass cheeks), and crowd everyone up at the line of scrimmage, bring the safteys down tight, because we have nobody who is even a modicum of a deep threat.  Also gives them an advantage in the run game.  I believe our woes begin at playcalling, then o-line, THEN QB issues.  However if you fix those 2 things, miraculously the QB looks good.

I get that and those are issues that would plague any QB and keep us from truly contending. But right now I don’t see anything to give me optimism. It’s not passing the eye test for me in terms of athleticism, arm strength or ability to make plays.

I just want to see Young let it rip.  Hes playing very timid, conservative, afraid to make mistakes ball right now.  So many times it seems like hes gonna just plant his foot and gun it, but he pumps and shits himself and gets sacked....idk man.  IDK if that is what hes being coached to do or what.

If Bryce had of been the only legit top ten prospect coming into the draft, things would seem better. But the reality is the two QBs that went in the next couple of picks after Bryce look more like number one picks and it’s not even close.

Gambling that Young would be the second coming of Peyton manning because of his mental intangibles seems to be a losing bet four weeks into the season.

It’s the type of gamble that costs people’s jobs. Not to mention what the FO sacrificed to move up to select the losing bet.

The time for accountability is rapidly approaching.

This right here. That's been the formula against the Panthers since Ted Ginn left and Cam's arm fell off.

The offense inability to get chunk plays. It's very hard to have every scoring drive take 10+ plays, especially starting rookies and backups.

Exactly.  We attempted 1 pass of 20+ yards yesterday. ONE.  Hell I could scheme a defense against a team with a bad o-line, slow WRs and an offense that simply refuses to try and hit chunk plays.  Its like they're trying to rely on YAC with WRs who do not ever get any YAC.

He flashed on a few plays.

2nd and goal 1:36

He flashed on a few plays.

2nd and goal. 1:40 remaining in 1st qtr throws a back shoulder to Ian Thomas that would be a TD but Thomas allows the pass to bounce off his shoulder pads.

3rd and 7. 3:17 remaining in 2nd qtr, extends play and rollouts of pocket to complete a pass to TMJ for 15+yards, play negated because of Bozeman hold

1sr and 10. With 34 seconds remaining in the 2nd qtr. Hits Thielen in stride. Then allow 20 seconds to run off instead of using a timeout

2nd and 11 with 9 minutes left in the 3rd quarter completes the pass to Marshall. This is the play that I don't Marshall caught but quickly goes up and completes a pass to Thielen right after for another first down.

3rd and 11 with 6:47 remaining in 3rd qtr. This is his best play of his 3 game starts. Eludes 2+ defenders in the pocket and completes it to Thielen. Quinn literally says "that is why he was the no.1 overall pick"

After half he completed 16 straight passes.

Listen I haven't been pleased that in each of his three starts, he's turned over the ball at the most inopportune times.

However, I don't see much this team is doing in making his transition to the NFL easier - coaching or player wise. Some of the plays mentioned above where negated due to poor OL play, bad players (Ian Thomas), and poor clock management (coaching).

Panthers players said Young’s problem wasn’t failing to recognize blitzes, although Wonnum believes the Vikings’ interior pressure affected Young’s field vision. “He really couldn’t step up and see what was going on,” Wonnum said. “Having those guys allowed us to work on the edge, and Harrison and all of us were able to make big plays.”
