This won't sound positive but please bear with me:

A few weeks ago, NFL Radio was speaking of how bad the Panthers were.  Bill Polian acknowledged that this was the case.  That's when he started saying some of the most encouraging things I've heard this year.

First, I'll say it was encouraging because he was not trying to compliment our team.  He was blunt about our flaws (and about other teams' flaws).  So it was an honest evaluation from a tremendously knowledgable HOFer.

He said stats may not show it but he has seen very nice growth from Young each week.  (Remember, this was before our win).  Then he spoke of what he had said before the season.  He saw in training camp that we were having great growing pains with new coaching, new system, etc.  He also saw that we still had quite a few players that don't fit the system.

His determination back then (that he stated back then) was that our team would have a much better 2nd half of the season than first half as things started clicking.

This not only gave me a bunch of encouragement about the rest of this season, but that we will continue to see incremental jumps forward as we move into next season and beyond.

Yes I forget what insider said this but, it was like - " Frank and rhule want totally different type players across the team". You can not flip 50 players in one year.

It was too much to overcome given the 0-6 start with the weak O and roller coaster D. Nearly a 98% new staff and total new thoughts and system, plus a rookie QB.

We've had that discussion here, as well. And it's true on both sides of the ball.

An example would be if your previous DC ran primarily zone concepts in the secondary but your new one uses man, you might have some who can do both but not all so there'll be some turnover.

It's not necessarily that a guy is bad. He might just no longer fit what you want to run

That’s why you don’t do a full 180 in one offseason. You build a scheme around the players you have and play to their strengths. Forcing these players to play in his scheme wasn’t the best decision by Reich IMO. The OL for example wasn’t and isn’t ready for the zone blocking scheme they are wanting to run.

Agreed, though I don't think a major overhaul is necessarily needed.

if they move Ickey to guard and try to acquire a left tackle better suited for a WCO, that might be enough.

Sounds like we will be getting Horn back in 2 weeks ( fingers crossed ) that will be a huge boost to this defense if he can come in and play at least 85%. Could be huge for the back quarter of the season.

Its nice to hear people preaching a little patience with a new staff and all the changes that involves. It also doesn't help that ( from my understanding ) with the new practice restrictions and changes to preseason most teams don't really hit their stride until after the first 2-4 games anyways. Compound that with everything being new as well, it was going to be tough. Hopefully we have turned the corner and really start stacking some momentum.

They need to just switch back to a power/man blocking scheme and throw this zone poo straight in the garbage.

That's not an easy thing to do in what's primarily a West Coast based scheme.

For what we've got at the moment, Moton seems capable of handling it. Corbett can do it also given that he came from a similar offense with the Rams. It's from the center to the left where we have questions.

I do think Bozeman can do it (FJ disagrees with me there) and I think could probably handle it if he were at the left guard spot rather than left tackle. Unfortunately, that leaves us needing a left tackle again.

Could they conceivably switch up this game though? It might be in limiting the playbook somewhat, but it's possible.

Difficult, but possible.

Many on here, me included, predicted this as well. I told people to take a break until the end of October. For one, the schedule gets easier. Secondly, it takes a while for everyone to adjust to new coaches and a new system, especially a rookie QB.

BC may yet have a future on this team as a LT...  He will never be an all pro at LT but he could be decent and keep Young upright.  That could be enough.

I like to think that if he were healthy this year, flip-flopping he and Ekwonu could have been an option.

He fits the typical West Coast LT mold way better than Ickey would.
