Why are we not at a minimum trying to trade TMJ to the Bengals for like a 4th or 5th.

They seem like the perfect place for him with Burrow/Chase to team back up with and knowing they'll lose Higgins after the season, they'd have him under contact for next year to see if they can do anything with him

These other teams watch the games too. Would you wanna trade a 4th or 5th for TMJ?

Why the fug would the Bengals trade a high day 3 pick for TMJ? Lmao when guys like Mecole Hardman and Donovan Peoples-Jones who have shown way more in the league are garnering 6th for 7th pick swaps or 6th/7th round picks 2 years out? The best we could hope for is something similar to the Robby Anderson deal last year.

Yea, a minute after posting I realized 4/5 was a dumb ask, but I still contend that we should be trading him to them and they should want him given the Higgins situation and LSU connection between TMJ and their guys.

So maybe it's the 6/7 swap along with it, but we really should have been trying to trade him there and get SOMETHING for him instead of just cutting him at some point

The part that always gets forgotten in the "why didn't we trade that guy" question is that somebody else has to be willing to trade for them.

It's borderline miraculous that we got compensation for guys like Greg Little and Robbie whatever his name is now, but you can't count on stuff like that happening all the time.

Yeah, that's more like it.

Because you are the only one who believes he has that sort of value to any NFL team.

edit: didn’t see other post til it was to late.

As Panthers fans we just want to get rid of him at this point given where we drafted him and the expectations we had.

But there is no denying that he still has potential and is good enough to be on someone's roster to see if a change in scenery can tap into the potential.

Pairing him back up with his LSU teammates in Cinci to me just seems like the best chance in doing so, and add in that he has another year on his deal and they lose Higgins, just seems like a fit to me.

Claypool was able to be traded for a pick and he's looked worse these last 2 years than TMJ has ever looked, on top of having a horrible attitude.

If we were to cut him, he'd get signed immediately, someone out there would do the 6/7 swap for him

I was speaking of the 4-5th price you originally stated. Which is why I added the edit. And Claypool had more production his rookie year than TMJ has his whole career.

    • Canales up first. Guys got their legs back yesterday and started a little slow when they came out Bryce challenged them in the huddle and they responded "Dominant practice for the defense today." Praised turnovers, "beautiful hits," and being physical Praised Moehrig, Ransom, Incoom, and Jones II Confirmed playing starters. Predominantly a young team and can't pass up an opportunity. Emphasized game day routines such as nutrition, body readiness, etc. Plus it's a bunch of new guys on the defense. Bryce will start. Will play them the first two, but starters might sit for the third game depending on how practice goes that week. Nic Scourton has a mild hamstring that happened in special teams. DJ Johnson had an issue with his hip flare up and is getting checked out this afternoon. Experimenting with approach to preseason games. In Seattle they played their starters in all but the last preseason game and what Pete Carroll was looking for in terms of mental readiness to play football. Thomas Incoom has been getting a lot of work with AC Carter adding to his toolbelt. Getting better as a rusher and being physical in the run game. Looking for a consistency in response. 1pt for a win, 3pts for a TD. Defense doesn't like that, but in games if they give up one go ball the score can swing. They challenged the pass game and the run game today. Guys are getting together before, between, and after team drills to challenge each other Job of the coaching staff to set the foundation for our schemes, philosophy, and expectations of what it's like to play Panthers football. Powerful when players take that and the locker room owns it. That's when it becomes our team, their team. At the end of the day, the men on the field have to rebound from a bad play, celebrate the good plays, and keep each other in tune for a whole game. Robert Hunt is amazing. Size, talent, quickness, flexibility. Really intelligent guy that there will say himself there are technique things he needs to work on. Regardless of where players are at, there's a constant learning curve and loves that Big Rob is challenging himself with the position coach. Thinks the digital down and distance can be really valuable. Getting the information quickly will help with the flow of the game. Thought TMac looked great but there were some near misses that he'll have to get in the room and communicate with Bryce on while reviewing film. James Mitchell keeps doing right and his trust factor is increasing with the QBs. If you're right and the coverage says the ball goes there, it'll come. Had some issues at the start of camp but is trending up. Newton or Person: "It looked like today was beyond thud but short of live. What do you call that?" Canales: "No, that's thud. In my mind, that's what thud should look like. The challenge for our defensive guys is can you put your body in a position where we know that would've been a tackle." Whizzing by, tagging with two hands, etc doesn't show you whether you would've made a tackle. That's not real football. Let's the play extend because guys have to be ready to chase sometime where the ball squirts out from a pit. Can't train to say "Ah, it was a tackle" and relax but instead play with intensity through the whistle. Lathan Ransom is bringing the physical style of play that they saw on film. Has been really into the details and someone that they can count on. Has really given himself a chance to start at the other safety position. Excited for the extra energy from a game-like environment that they'll get from FanFest. Used to have four preseason games and now FanFest feels like that first one. Will give ST full speed reps to evaluate. Making plays and feeding off of the fans. Window closed quickly on the INT to finish practice. CSW baited Bryce with some movement and made a great play. Saw it from Bryce's perspective with TMac coming open. Has played all over the secondary that they can count on to speak loudly and be on the same page with his teammates.
