Quick Question, be honest

Absolutely. And hopefully it will be built in the model of the hurricanes and it might benefit from not being in Charlotte.

Fresh start in a new city would be good.

The panthers we grew with prior to JR selling the team (something that I still believe should have happened) is dead. The Carolina Panthers we all loved is dead.

Cremate it and spread its ashes on Mint Street and at Wofford.

Let this iteration of the panthers go. All it's done is disappoint.

honestly, I was thinking about that yesterday.  The team I grew to love is just gone.  Theres no semblence of toughness on the team.  I dont see a player that I think would perservere through adversity.  Hell, even in our bad spots, we had guys we felt like we could get behind as really good role models, but we dont even have that (Not saying players dont give back, they absolutely do, but none that are above and beyond).  I hope they give us a reason to pull for them in the next few years rather than just the logo they have on their helmet.

  • Tepper isn't selling the team. He bought it to be part of a very exclusive club, which strokes his ego.
  • Most people have already given up on the team since it has been so bad every year he's owned it, so if Tepper moves the team, we really don't lose much.
  • True, there is no guarantee for an expansion, but if the NFL wants a team here, there will be one, even if it's another team that moves instead of a fresh start.
  • The branding being different can be a very good thing. Most NFL fans know the Panthers are a mediocre at best team that has become straight up terrible under Tepper.
  • You'll still have your memories, so any memorabilia you may own won't be useless. And any monetary value it has may actually increase.
  • Whatever tradition the team had is already out the window.
  • The team isn't that old as far as pro teams go and it is located in a transplant city. The roots aren't deep at all.

Some of us are transplants who have grown to love CLT and the Panthers. It’s not about team identity. It’s not just about the team culture. The community has its own culture that revolves around the team. There are organizations like the Riot made up of thousands of fans. Riding into CLT for Christmas to see family and seeing every building lit up to that beautiful shade of blue after we won our second game of the season ignites a sense of pride in my city.  Even if we lose 15 games this year, this is my team. 30 years of history may not be significant when compared to other franchises but it’s not like this team was minted yesterday. You’re suggesting we trash all that because you hate Tepper so much you’d rather gamble with something that could never happen or be another version of awful. I’ll stick with the team I love and one day in the not so distant future Tepper won’t be around any more. But I hope to be and my kids and maybe their kids will be too. And we can cherish the team that I grew up with.

This is where you're assuming something and wrong. I don't hate Tepper, in fact, I don't give a poo about him at all. He's just another rich asshole and life is too short to waste on hate. I also haven't suggested to trash the team. Moving is not trashing. Trashing the team would be the NFL deciding the Panthers(and a few other teams to keep things balanced) had to cease to exist and contracting the league.

You're also assuming the NFL wouldn't ever give a market another team and that if they did, it would be an inferior product. You can't get much worse than the Panthers have been over their existence, especially the last six years or so.

I mean come on dude.  The last 6 years have been bad, but 17 playoff games, including 2 Super Bowl appearances and a league MVP?  You can do a lot worse.

How about this one...........if this team is moved but the NFL wants another team in the Carolinas but must take an existing team and move it here...based on recent moves of other NFL teams that have not established a long term fan basis which team would you want to come here?

Raiders?...........Rams, Cardinals...........Chargers?

of the more recently moved teams.................or what about a switch?

Never had back to back winning seasons, only 3 winning seasons with a MVP #1 pick QB, 19 losing seasons, and only 7 winning seasons in 28 years of existence. It's been bad and the Panthers are the definition of mediocrity.

Mediocrity is not as bad as it gets.  You should know that from the past 6 years lol.  We haven't had sustained success, but the team has definitely had some bright spots in its relatively short life.  You can take that for granted if you want to, but the next franchise could easily be the Charlotte Bobcats with no success ever.

What do you gain from it then?

I can't imagine their numbers are that strong after this year. If they are I'd be shocked if there was much in the way of fervor.

Tepper has created a tepid (at best) culture and the culture does drive the team and fanbase.

And Tepper has already made the team trash.

Also, most fans are not Charlotte residents and could care less where in the state we have a team as long as it's in the Carolinas somewhere.

Well…yeah. They’re the “Carolina” Panthers. But let’s be honest. If the team was sold they aren’t moving to Raleigh or Columbia. They’re moving west.

Riot has chapters in several states and a few countries but not everyone is going to continue to support the team if they’re not playing in the Carolinas. That was my entire point.
