Pro Bowl Monteaz Sweat just signed a deal for less than what Burns is asking. Sweat is a more complete edge rusher than Burns. It's not hate to point out that Burns is not worth the money he's asking. Other players have signed lesser contracts and are out playing him.

People want to build a winner and giving a Bosa level contract to a guy that hasn't had Reddick level production is an issue. Despite what New Orleans leads people to believe, there is a finite level of cap space to work with every year. We need to spend our resources wisely across the board.

If Burns is willing to sign a team friendly contract in the same neighborhood as Sweat, it's still a slight overpay, but whatever. If he wants a Bosa level contract, let someone else pay it. His production hasn't warranted that level of pay increase. Overpay and hope it works out is the Hurney way and we all saw how that worked out for us with several different players.

Has Bosa lived up to his contract this year?

He's not even in the DPOTY discussion despite being the highest paid defensive player in NFL history. You don't see 49ers fans bashing Bosa.

If we come to a reasonable agreement below $30M per do you think the Burns slander will stop?

People just flat out don't like this guy for whatever reason. Him signing for a realistic deal won't stop the slander we see every week even when he's arguably one of our better players. I have never seen a player get so much hate despite being a pretty good team guy. The fact fans are hating on one of our team captains just shows you how bad this franchise has become under Tepper.

Burns is easily my favorite player on the team. I'm just tired of seeing people slander him week in and week out. What happened to supporting one of your better players?

We can talk about his contract when the time comes. It's sad people talked about his contract during the entire season.

He is a good but not great player. If we can get 2 or 3 other good players in free agency with the kind of money he was wanting, not sure where that is at now, then absolutely trade or let him walk. They could literally fix the oline with that kind of money...or if anyone competent was in charge.

He just is not a guy to build a team around. He is a guy that can go to a good D and finally reach his true potitnal as a pass specialist. I honestly think they have asked him to save themselves from their bad team building and management by being more than he is. He isn't a Peppers but that doesn't mean he is awful. That trade offer will always be the turd in the punch bowl when talking about Burns with this fanbase, even if Burns had no direct part in that entire fiasco.

Bosa has done it before. He's played to the level of contract he demanded. Burns hasn't in 5 years. That's the difference. And I still think Bosa's contract was ridiculous but the 9ers are in position to win the Super Bowl. The Panthers are about to be 2-15. Two vastly different situations.

Bosa has twice the QB hits and more sacks in his 'down' year.  He's just a more complete player

Burns doesn't deserve what he's asking for, if he really wants 30 mil+.

well, he has double digit sacks, on what is currently the #2 D in the NFL in points allowed, and his team has the best record in the NFC....

hard to bash a guy too hard given that his team is flying about as high at you can get.

So we ignore Bosa play because he's on a better team?

If you playing bad for a season you can't talk about his past accomplishments yet downplay Burns on his previous years. Burns was on the rise these last few years. The Rams were willing to give 2 picks just last season.

Seems like people just moving the goalpost when it comes to Burns.

No one is ignoring his play and no one is moving the goal posts for Burns. The goal post is still the same. Burns has never gotten there once. Elite level pay requires elite level play. Burns is Hassan Reddick with a nifty sack celebration. Nothing wrong with that, but let's not pretend he's Bosa, Watt, or Garrett.

And just because the Rams were willing to ridiculously overpay isn't a justification to pay him as an elite player. Don't take another GMs mistake and compound it.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
