Gantt Reveals Panther's Offer To Peppers

Stew can and does punish, but we're not talking Earl Campbell here (or, for you younger kids, Marion Barber). Stewart has more elusiveness and speed than the prototype power back. He is a smooth customer. He is more akin to Adrian Peterson than the Barbarian. Stew isn't one of thes backs which leads with his head. Don't get me wrong: He is a North-South back, but he probably slashes and dashes a little more, uses his vision to get past the first line, and as such is less likely to take a direct hit. As such, the opposition will be looking at his dust before they realize what happened.

You are right in that aspect, he is not a pure battering ram type runner. However I don't think the human body can take those punishing hits he gives and takes over a extended period of time. I think combined with another complimentary back (d-will) he could last a lot longer than the prototypical punishing back. Especially combined with his speed and elusiveness. However if given the choice I would take D-will, because he is more elusive and takes less hits so I think his durability might be better (pure guess on my part). It would make me happy if we could somehow lock both of them up for at least 3 years.

Translate.

Richardson will sacrifice the fans of his team, the people who helped pay for his stadium, to prove a point to the Players.

Sums it up right there. This year is a wash people. I doubt we see anymore then 8 wins if we dont play the FA market. We are simply worse off then last year cause Peppers is gone.

I personally hope we don't trade either Williams or Stewart. NO TEAM IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL HAS HAD a running back duo like them ever before. If we could get our passing game working again, we would be hard to beat with a balanced offense.

As for Peppers, I am disappointed to read it was all about the money. He had a great offer from us, IMO, and left it. He is no way going to get the money he thinks he is worth from any team in their right minds.

JMO.

Fixed for accuracy. :D

When shown in direct comparison, I can see why Peppers left. He probably thinks he's worth $15-16M/year, not $13. He and his agent have been watching a tad bit to much SportsCenter.

The scary thing to me about Julius Peppers is this:

We all know he takes plays off and gets by on freakish athletic ability. If he goes into free agency and gets paid and is motivated to prove to the world he is exactly who he thinks he is, he really could make every single game look like the Minnesota game last season.

If that sumbitch gets on the Madden cover in another jersey, I will not by that years Madden for the first time in my life.

So because Peppers is gone the whole team is garbage? I think the consensus last year even when Peppers wasn't playing well early in the year was that most of the games we lost were mostly because of turnovers/ineffective QB play. I don't think we are downgraded that much as a defense since Peppers disappeared for long stretches anyway. Of course losing a great pass rusher like that hurts but over all the defense was playing extremely well as a whole. I mean besides the minnesota/arizona game, there wasn't any other game in which Peppers played so well that he looked irreplaceable. Plus he only has had 27.5 sacks the last 3 years and we paid him 44 mill. That's not worth 15 mill or 21 mill salary cap or no salary cap. Plus we can't continue to let JP hold us hostage on what might happen. There is no reason he shouldn't have had a 18 sack year.

Agreed. Except for the QB, no one player is that important. We still have a great core of linebackers, a solid secondary, and now some of the other defensive linemen have a chance to step into the spotlight. And I know people have already dismissed Everette Brown because he had a typical year for a rookie defensive lineman, but I think we could really see some solid play out of him this year.
