Panthers offer deal to Peppers

The Panthers made a last-ditch effort to sign Julius Peppers, sources tell ESPN's Pat Yasinskas.

The long-term offer was for somewhere close to $14 million a year, according to Yasinskas. Peppers said "no thanks" and the Panthers then announced that he'd become a free agent. It's possible that Peppers turned down the richest deal he'll find, but he was obviously set on leaving town.

what a bonehead.

good riddance. i'm glad he didn't take it.

thing to take from this, though, is that there was at least $14mil they were planning on spending on him this year that they can now be free to spend elsewhere. that could be easily used to lock up 2-3 players long term. davis and williams could both be taken care of with that $14mil a year.

*** Peppers I am ****** tired of hearing about him- he is a selfish bastard who the hell cares where he winds up, he has no loyalty to his home team. Screw him - he wants money we offered it to him, he wants a competitive team - we lost one of the closest superbowls ever and since then have been more than relevant.       I mean in this economy, companies have to be smarter with their spending. Sending reporters to Charlotte to cover a moribund, Pop Warner-level franchise is the ultimate waste of money that should get execs fired. If the media were being kept out, they'd report that--it's the most self-important profession in the world. Even for the locals who know "Panthers suck yet again" stories get them no clicks. Bottom line, no conspiracy here. They're just not worth covering.

      why cant they just let teams have their kicker kick it and then run off the field? Thats the only thing he can do and he also cant recover an onside. The kicking team will have 12 men to start, including the kicker, and then he runs off.  the new rule seems complicated. Not sure if Im going to like it or not. If they wanted more returns, they shouldve just gone back to the old way.
