Are we letting Moose Walk

I don't think Moose will sign with another team. If he doesn't get with the Panthers I'm guessing he won't play. But, that's just a hunch. I hope they sign him though. Actually, I hope they sign most of the FA's back.

I would like to keep Brayton, I love Moose but it's time to move on.

I could take or leave the rest of those guys. Hollis played well but on a good day he's 36 so it's a short term fix, would rather put a younger guy out there like Louis Leonard and let him continue to develop.

As for Moose really it is a numbers game. If we keep Smitty, Moose, and Jarrett we already have Goodson who is a hybrid runner/ slot receiver. We have other guys like Moore, Martin and Jackson who would all be working for a slot. Now if we pick up a free agent or one of two guys in the draft, something is going to have to give. That could be 10 guys for 5 or 6 slots at the most. I expect Moose is one of those we will let go because he has no long term upside.

I think several of the receivers you list probably can step up for us, but it's a gamble. With Moose, we know quite well what he's capable of.

Remember when Moose left for Chicago and we had Colbert and Carter? I don't want to be in that situation again. We need to get younger at the position, certainly, but I think we need to hang on to Moose for as long as he can play.

I'm pretty sure he was quoted after season's end as saying he would continue playing, even if he wasn't re-signed here.

The only person on that list that would be a priority to re-sign would be Brayton.
agreed.

Thomas was a stop gap and we are back-loaded with young talent at DT because of all of the trades and aquisitions last year.
thomas was an invaluable stop gap. he can't be easily replaced by the young talent we have at DT. he is a NT. the only other real options we have right now for him is leonard and kemo. both coming back from pretty big injuries. leonard should be back but we are far from certain that he is THE answer at NT. kemo is a bigger question because of his health. he never really had the push up the middle that thomas exhibited. forced to choose 2 between kemo, thomas, and leonard i would go with thomas and leonard.

i hope we'd keep all three on the roster but i don't see us doing that. losing thomas would be a bigger deal than losing kemo, imo.

Vincent has injury concerns and with Bernadue, Schwartz, and Robinson on the roster his replacement is on the team.
losing vincent would hurt some but i think we'd be okay there. i trust magazu in making sure that we have a solid line.

Loyd is not a priority since most teams are not looking for a kickoff specialist. Especially one that has never proven he can kick FG's.
true. he can be easily replaced if needed.

Wesley might have written his own fate with "The Hit" last year. Whether he meant it or not poo like that will get your ass blackballed. Teal is a scrub.
wesley actually became a huge contributor after that hit and was used a lot. other teams may still have that hit in mind but that is to our advantage. we need him on STs and to play the role of joker on defense. he offers the team far too much to not make at least some effort to keep him.

I remember that, I just don't really believe it. It would be too easy for him to retire. I'm probably wrong it just seems like it would be easier to stop playing than have to go to a new team, new system, new location, etc.

This is a mistake.

Moose isn't the greatest No. 2 receiver, but he's about all you can ask for in a No. 3 -- especially on a run-first team such as ours. I'd also like to keep him around to mentor whomever we pick up in the draft.

If Moose goes, we're going to have to pick up two receivers. I wonder if letting Moose walk means we'll snag someone like Boldin in free agency?

I agree w/ that.....but if you keep Moose he will likely remain at the #2 this year and Carolina needs to make an effort to find that guy NOW. You won't find him in the draft either.....not for the 2010 season.

100% agreed Moose is a solid #3 receiver, in fact perfect. He is also useful for 3rd n shorts and blocking, with great hands most of the time. I say offer a little more than a #3 receiver would normally make if he wants to get paid like he is #2, forget it. I love Moose he is the man but everyone gets older and slower, it just happens. :(
