The Real Reason This Trade is So Bad

The thing that sucks the most is knowing the full cost of how insanely badly we lost in the Brian Burns episode.

Turned 2 firsts and a second into a second and a fifth.

It's a byproduct of Scott Fitterer. No need hanging onto it.

Gem free agents aren't necessarily going to be cheap free agents. We just got one of the best guards in the league.

Also one of the highest paid ones.

I am not mad at the player but fug me the money is a head scratcher.

Why go full rebuild but blow money like that? Jesus...we probably aren't even gonna break .500 during the terms of his contract. So....fuging....WHY???

And it doesn't move the needle. Even if Bryce has all day to throw, which this guard doesn't guarantee as the Panthers are still weak at Left Tackle, Left Guard, and Center, he needs players to throw to and an offensive system that can score points in bunches to overcome a massive deficit on defense. Which is historically not something you see often.

Brother, that is one of the worst episodes literally in the history of the franchise. One of the worst decisions we have ever made.

No one is going to let that go. That's just just pure dementia to suggest otherwise.

It’s sucks but I really think the Giants screwed up giving him that contract.  Ludicrous money for him IMO.

All it takes is one team. His agent knew there was a 30mill per offer and wanted it, can not blame burns. Paired with Thibodeaux and see if burns can 2x his sacks numbers. idk.....

Personally seen burns beat too much by 3rd string RTs and TEs or him miss a QB by 5 yards behind them. I mean he's got one move, speed. Its a great trait, but not a one-30million per type trait.

Reddick was getting 15 per and playing better run D and got better #s.

The only reason I see is burns age-25 and he still could improve. But he has been the same player for the last 5 years here, so......

*INHALES*

Surely there are some gem free agents just itching to sign with a 2-15 team that jettisoned the remaining talent.

Yeah, we freaking know we are going to have to overpay. It was a certainty.

*If you are gonna do it, put the money in the best quality product you can find. I don’t know, but the consensus (!) says he is a quality player.

*Spending on a guy who impacts every play, = value.

Well, you don't go into a rebuild saying, "We're going to suck for five years!" You don't necessarily go in half stepping on the O-line either. Moreover, you must take that excuse out of the equation for your QB, much less your prized number one overall QB.

As far as I'm concerned, it's about damned time that we prioritize the O-line. A bad O-line is the scourge of any team.

I had no problem moving on from Burns when his value was highest. That Rams offer was the peak because they were desperate to extend the Super Bowl window and he still had time on his rookie contract.

Trading for a franchise-tagged player is essentially having first dibs at that player in free agency. Not much of a difference. We weren’t going to get much for him at this point unfortunately.

We quite literally are half stepping on the OL. They aren't good minus Moton and maybe this guy. Jesus, we might be starting @TheBigKat on a vet minimum deal at the fuging rate we are going.

Also, what is the point of having two good OL but destroying the entire rest of the team? Good Lord....what core is left? It's literally Brown and I have to assume he is likely gone sooner rather than later.

I get it, these guys are losers but if that is the case.....just fuging be bad while being fuging cheap.  That makes some sense. Turning around and shelling out megabucks for a guard makes none.

Yeah despite the waste of a roster spot he is blocking for, you build up front. If you are gonna sign FA just make sure they can play.

I really can’t argue the move that hard. It was not pre trade deadline 2022 any more.

edit: absolutely the refusal of that offer was imbecilic.

The real reason it's so awful is the value we got in return. The Giants made him the second highest paid pass rusher in the league and only gave up a 2nd and a 5th to get him. The last time I remember a pass rusher like that getting traded was when Khalil Mack got traded to the Bears. Now I think Mack was the better player but they were comparable. Mack became the highest paid edge rusher and had 40.5 sacks over the previous four years. Burns is the 2nd highest paid edge rusher and he has 38.5 sacks over the previous four years. There's a reason why the Rams offered us two 1sts and the reason was largely the standard the Khalil Mack trade set.

What did the Raiders get for Mack? Two 1sts, a 3rd, and a 6th. We got robbed.

Burns has never remotely played at the level of prime Mack. Not remotely. Mack was a menace. He took over games. Burns is a decent speed rusher and a liability against the run.

I disagree. I've already explained why I think it makes plenty of sense. But y'all carry on complaining about rebuilding.

It isn't rebuilding when you throw out contracts like that. That's just pure insanity.

Literally insane behavior.

    • What’s going to suck about Necas is that he’s going to go somewhere and put up 80+ points. Good player, wrong system.
    • Yeah I didn’t intend to suggest they made adjustments, I just said Rivera and Wilkes were good at barking at dudes for sucking. Vs the Rhule high pitched yapping and the Reich dead eyes and mutter
