We essentially turned Mike Williams down

Yes, I know that a tweet was posted in the Williams thread, but this is something that doesn't need to be buried---hell, the thread title was old news--- for several reasons.

"Rumors have surfaced that Mike Williams, despite being open to a visit with them, did not receive a matching offer from the Carolina Panthers"

https://clutchpoints.com/nfl-rumors-panthers-shocking-mike-williams-decision-prior-to-jets-deal

First, In general, it indicates that the FO is at least being thoughtful about it's decisions (and not necessarily willing to pay top dollar for guys that have a notorious injury history and so-so results).

Secondly, I'd say that they're expressly considering that some of the receivers that may be available to us may simply have more of an impact, if not immediately, in 2024 than Williams or some other guy in free agency.

Third, I'd say that this would probably lends itself to more of a possibility of double dipping at receiver at 33 and 39.

Lastly, it may be a sign of Morgan putting the brakes on Canales getting everything on his wish list  (David Moore was likely a condiderable fallback), in order to keep that money for Jadeveon Clowney. I mean, I'm being more speculative here, but who was more important to hand to the Jets, Williams or Clowney? Ejiro has to get some love too. Morgan may make it happen.

Oh yeah, and so much for nobody wanting to come to Charlotte...

Those are my thoughts. What are yours?

"essentially" is the better word, and we can attract free agents

It hurts when someone turns you down. Panthers just saving face. Get better as a team and players will sign with you point blank.

Nobody in their right mind thinks we are a better chance at winning over the Jets.

If the money is the same are you taking Charlotte NC over NY City?

If the money is the same are you taking Bryce Young over Aaron Rodgers?

I rest my case.

I know that prices are rising like crazy in Charlotte and all over Carolina, but the cost of living in NYC is crazy. Why do you think that there are so many New Yorkers migrating down here? And ,believe it or not, some people don't want to live in NYC.

And, Aaron Rodgers might be just an old, broken down QB coming off an Achilles injury. Some people aren't attracted to that. And Bryce still has some cachet with the players. Not everyone believes it was mostly his fault that we bombed last season.

So much for resting your case.

You do realize NY is one of the most populated states in America right?

Just because people are moving to NC doesn't mean NY is shrinking. Cost of living is a problem in every state. Given people can make money on social media now it's not really hard to make extra income these days. If you are an attractive person it's not hard to survive if you turn to social media.

Hell I got so many small business owners in my families. Everyone is adapting to the new reality. Find something you love to do and make it a business.

Also my case is closed. Williams signed with the Jets. Sorry you live in fantasy land.

We had a value on him and they outbid us. It’s not that big of a deal. I kind of like not overpaying for every player available as we are not in win now mode.

While I belive that he wasn't the best value and that we had a number, let me just say that we don't appear to be in lose-now mode either.

If not then I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. I understand there are people leaving NY. Still doesn't change the fact that more people live in NY than NC.

I'd move to Bozeman, Montana before NYC

But I also just can't stand NYC, it's way too busy and loud, just not my kind of city (and I'm no country bumpkin, just hate the craziness that is NYC).

But in regards to Williams himself, I'm glad we didn't match that contract, as I said numerous times before he signed anywhere, his style of game, combined with injury risk and contract demands, just aren't a good fit for where we are as a franchise right now.

Like I said a week ago, if we was willing to take a cheap 7-10 million deal to come here for a year, then yea, it was probably worth it, but not at $15 million, it could be used much better elsewhere, or even not at all and roll it over into next year's cap.

What does that have to do with all the people that have moved from NY to NC really pre and especially post pandemic? My point is that you are trying to act like there aren't reasons why Mike Williams (or anyone) wouldn't chose NC or Charlotte over NY or NYC. That's obviously not the case in his case (or he wouldn't have given us the chance to match) or the case for the thousands of New Yorkers that have moved here since 2019.

    • They had best show out in Week 1 there are zero,I mean zero,  excuses for that offense  defense, haven’t play together yet and they still have Mr Soft and Predictable as DC  I expect break downs at times  …but that offense returns all starters except Tremble and both Mayes and Brady are veterans and can play LG and know the system not up for any participation awards this season they can save that practice energy for Jacksonville.     I’m sick of the, winning,  or looking competitive, when it doesn’t matter.
    • There are some tough decisions that I'm eager to see the results of... Does Blackshear sneak on to the roster as RB4? Does the team go with 4 TEs or just 3 again? And has Mitchell Evans done enough to defend his roster spot from James Mitchell? Who is WR6 and is there a WR7? TMac, XL, Coker, and AT seem to be locks imo and I'm assuming Renfrow also makes it due to all of the camp praise. Who makes it between Brycen Tremayne, Jimmy Horn Jr, and David Moore? If the team goes with 7 WRs, which one of those three doesn't make it? Jacolby George and Emani Bailey both have not gotten a lot of game time. Could the Panthers be trying to hide them so that they can be stashed on the PS? Do they go with 10 OL instead of 9? Who makes it out of Walton, Carter, and Kingston? DL locks are DB, BB3, ARob, and Turk. That leaves Jaden Crumedy, Cam Jackson, Sam Roberts, Shy Tuttle, and LaBryan Ray all competing for the final 1 - 3 spots. Does DJ Johnson get IR'd and Thomas Incoom make the roster as EDGE5? What in the fuuuuuuuuuuuuck is going to happen at LB? Only locks are Wallace, Rozeboom, and Cherelus (Wallace has mentioned in media how Cherelus has been big bro for him on the team) seem to be locks. Rhattigan had some good moments against Houston, Martin-Scott is an SC guy, Krys Barnes has popped on defense and on special teams, and Windmon got time starting for the team last season. Are two of those guys going to make it or are the Panthers poaching from another team's cuts? CB5... who is it? Do they go with the 4 expected safeties or bring in a 5th? Has Ransom done enough to take the start from Nick Scott?
    • I had this discussion with my buddy yesterday afternoon. If we start this season very slow(especially with the schedule being what it is) and then "rally" in the second half to get to 4-7 wins, I am already gonna be pretty heated at the staff overall. I know we are a very bad roster but I am not gonna keep excusing these slow season starts WITH late season rallies. That's a coaching staff problem, IMO. It's more excusable to just stink gate to gate, IMO. At least you can understand why.
