For those of us screaming for a WR on day 2, there is this:

Day 2 WRs drafted by Panthers (round)

2023:  Jonathan Mingo (2)

2021: Terrace Marshall Jr. (2)

2017: Curtis Samuel (2)

2015: Devin Funchess (2)

2010: Brandon Lafell (3); Armanti Edwards (3)

2007: Dwayne Jarrett (2)

2004: Keary Colbert (2)

2001: Steve Smith (3)

1997: Muhsin Muhammad (2)

So you're telling me there's a chance!

Yes!!!  And the odds that we hit on 2 WRs in this draft are even smaller!   Since we added Johnson and have Thielen for another season, maybe we should draft 1 that is most likely to be successful at the next level.  Someone who gets away from press coverage and runs good routes that create separation.  Adding Johnson was HUGE.  Lombardi referenced a stat on McAfee's show that was focused on the success rate of first round WRs--I think it was 27%--the lowest.  That would suggest that second round WRs succeed about 15-20% of the time---making the Panther results not abnormal.

2023 - 3 WRs in round 2 last year.  2 of 3 were instant impact players.

Reed had 912 total yards and 10 TDs

Rice had 935 total yards and 7 TDs.

Then of course, our pick.

2022 - 7 WRs in round 2

3 had 1000K+ seasons as rookies

1 had a 750K= season

1 had a worse season than Mingo did

So what would it take to move from 15 to 4 (Indianapolis trying to get Harrison)?  750 points after swapping first rounders this draft.   Without involving players, that trade would look like:

  • Arizona:  Pick 4
  • Indianapolis:  Picks 15, 46 and a 2025 first round selection.

If the top-4 stays put, I have a hard time seeing LAC staying put.

They become the team NYG and MIN are calling…could see NYG & LAC swapping to assure JJ in NY. The MIN is out of luck/ends up with Penix v Nix.

I don’t think the Giants are too high on JJM

    • I'm not sure that in a fair QB competition that Young would beat out Jones.
    • That's why I said stats aside. I lived in CO during Allen's college career and didn't have kids at the time so I watched most of his games. Bruh, I'm telling you. Balls just spraying all over the place. The type of throws where you're honestly trying to figure out who he was even trying to throw that one too. It was crazy. Richardson was inaccurate in college but at least you could tell who he was trying to throw it too. He threw a lot of early in the game Cam Newton type balls where it seemed like he was just a little too amped up and everything was a few feet high. Richardson's misses looked like they were maybe fixable with working on his footwork, release, etc. Josh Allen's misses looked like "ain't no way you're fixin' that poo, dude has a cannon equipped with no sights". LOL Huge props to the Bills for evaluating him as fixable and indeed fixing him.
    • A lot can change over the next week, but here is my best 53-man roster (note: I'm just basing this on guys on the 90 man roster currently). Obviously there could be trades/ waiver claims/ FA signings.   Offense (25) QB (2): Bryce Young, Andy Dalton RB (3): Chuba Hubbard, Rico Dowdle, Trevor Etienne TE (4): Tommy Tremble, JT Sanders, Mitchell Evans, James Mitchell WR (7): Tetoria McMillan, Xavier Legette, Adam Theilen, Jalen Coker, Hunter Renfrow, Jimmy Horn, Brycen Tremayne  OL (9): Ikem Ekwonu, Damien Lewis, Austin Corbett, Robert Hunt, Taylor Moton, Cade Mays, Chandler Zavala, Brady Christensen, Yosh Nijman    Defense (25) DL (6): Derrick Brown, Bobby Brown, Ashawn Robinson, Tershawn Wharton, Sam Roberts, Cam Jackson OLB (5): DJ Wonnum, Pat Jones, Nic Scourton, Princely Umanmielen, Thomas Incoom  ILB (5): Trevin Wallace, Christian Rozeboom, Krys Barnes, Jon Rattigen, Claudin Cherelus S (4): Trevon Moehrig, Demani Richardson, Lathan Ransom, Nick Scott  CB (5): Jaycee Horn, Mike Jackson, Chau Smith-Wade, Corey Thornton, Shemar Bartholomew    ST (3): LS: JJ Jansen  P: Sam Martin  K: Matthew Wright    Would like to hear everyone's thoughts
