Round 1 Winners and Losers

Yeah that's true.  Gotta admit though, Minshew looked a lot less capable in IND than earlier in his career.  Think Aiden played for LV with more ease and had a bit better vision/could see more of the field.  Minshew is a real backyard style QB that can get locked on guys.

Minshew is what he is, a guy that you feel good if he's your #2 for a few games, or a bridge QB. But it seems like the Raiders didn't view him that way with the contract they gave him, nor did they have any faith in O'Connell if they paid Minshew that much and made overtures to draft one too.

The Raiders got screwed out of Penix.  That could be losing--here is the question:  Do they take Rattler today?

I don't think they need to panic and get a QB.  They missed out on the top guys, so just build up the team until the right time comes.  You're not getting anyone much more promising than O'Connell (2023 early-4th) to compete with Minshew.

Point taken - though it's not too far off Brissett and Tyrod type money who had younger guys like Devito and Howell play over them when push came to shove.

He really is. I mean that's Bryce Young level bad situation.

When the Pats were on the clock he had to have been praying the Vikings would pull the trigger on the trade. That's what I was hoping for for him.

Then why did Atl give Cousins 100 million guaranteed if they only think he would start for 1-2 years? Isn't that really stupid or am I missing something?

It's fairly front loaded.  He'll have earned 75 of the 100 guarantee by the end of 2025.  The Falcons can get rid of him for 25 million dead after 2025, and if they play it right (June designation) they can split that over two years.  It's nothing essentially.

I see what you are saying.  However, I do not see how paying a QB who has never really taken his team to the promise land $50m per season for 2 years is a wise move.

I have to think that Cousins' rehab is really not going well or something. Which would be ironic since they drafted a guy who already has a longer career injury list.

wait until the falcons learn that Pennix is on his 2nd cadaver acl in his knee

Those situations are kind of different to me - Brissett was only a one year deal and a desperation play for Ron if the Howell experiment didn't go well to try to save his job which was on the hottest of hot seats.

Tyrod only got 5.5 mil per year and Devito only played initially because Tyrod got injured (and after Daniel Jones was done for the year). Their season was basically over by the time Tyrod was healthy enough to play and they had nothing to lose by seeing what Devito had

Oh the fans at least know:

this dude puts it well:

Quote

It’s just so much to unpack:

Cousins:

Cousins is on a 4 year contract

$45 million per year which is same per year as the Mahomes mega contract

The contract is over 50% fully guaranteed

The contract has a no-trade clause

This is a “we 100% believe in you & want to win now” contract

Penix:

Generally considered to be a ‘top 50’ pick

relatively older QB in the draft (24 in 2 weeks)

If he remains a backup through the Cousins contract he will be 28 when he first starts

What is the plan here?

If you are unsure on Cousins either don’t get him or sign him to a higher per year shorter contract, the current contract locks you into him for a long time

If you want to get young QB in an early round to sit behind your starter do it on the last year of your current QB’s contract not day 1 of a 4 year on contract

TLDR: This doesn’t help win now & your pick won’t touch the field until he’s 28 so it probably won’t help you win later.

Let's put it this way - if the Falcons are planning ahead to get out of a contract that they just signed a month and a half ago, it probably wasn't a good plan. Especially if they did this thinking he was the missing piece to win a championship

    • You said the team goes limp-dick in the playoffs because RBA won't change. (Note that you did not suggest what changes you think he needs to make). You then stated "Rod will never change anything." I can only infer that the team continues to fall out of the playoffs because RBA doesn't/won't change. Therefore, if RBA will never change anything, the team will fall out of the playoffs. I mean, that is literally the line of logic you posted. So, I'm not sure what you're suggesting, since I don't have a crystal ball.
